Meet Kylah Mone’t of Kmone’t Hair Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to K Mone’t.

Hi K Mone’t, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been around hair since I was born. My mother is a licensed cosmetologist. Growing up, I would always play in her hair products and styling kits. At her salon, I would work the receptionist desk, sweep the floors, shampoo clients, and upkeep the salon books. I wore my natural hair pressed out when I was younger with different colors or braided styles.

I started wearing hair extensions in high school. I begged my mom to give me my first sew-in in 9th grade and ever since then I have fallen in love with extensions. In school, my girl classmates would always ask me where I got my bundles or hair extensions from and who does my hair. I loved that people recognized how nice my hair always was because it was important to who I was. I always had my hair done nicely, especially for events. In college, I decided I wanted to share my bundles with the world.

I started my own black-owned business called Kmone’t Hair Collection. My business is just 11 months old and it is growing more each day! I am proud of my products and I know it is quality hair since these are the hair extensions that I have worn for several years. I am excited about the work I put in for Kmone’t Hair Collection and the customers I touch with my story.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a business owner is not easy.

Doubting yourself will be one of the biggest struggles in owning a business. Some days, you will feel like you are not good enough and other days you will feel like you exceed the requirements. I always have affirmation talks with myself to keep my spirits positive. Another struggle in owning a business is time management.

Business owners still have personal lives and other careers to pursue; so remember to not spread yourself thin with time. Give yourself time to do what you need and do not overload yourself. Being a Boss has its flaws. It is way more rewarding to run a business that is not easy but you still go beyond to achieve your goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me happy because I know I can be myself.

The definition of family is a group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption who live together. In my own opinion, family is way more than that. My family makes me happy because they smile at my accomplishments, make me feel safe, bring me joy when I’m sad, and show up for me no matter the circumstances.
