Rising Stars: Meet Sherri McFadden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri McFadden.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At the beginning of 2019, I decided that instead of making resolutions, I would set goals. My dream of becoming a real estate agent had been with me for over a decade but I initially lacked the courage and self-confidence that I needed in order to make the career change. 2019 was different. I made a list of all of the things I planned to accomplish before the year ended and held myself accountable. I eventually signed up to take the class offered by the local Board of REALTORS® and on my 48th birthday, I took and passed the exam to become a licensed agent.

Within a few days of passing the exam, I met with Hope Mims, Broker/CEO of Mims Realty Group. Hope and I first met in 1999 while working for a Fortune 10 Telcom company. I had been following her career in real estate & knew within the first few minutes of our conversation that Mims Realty Group would be the perfect place for me to establish my roots.

I have finally discovered my passion. Sometimes I wish that I had started my real estate career years ago, but I do believe that everything happens as it’s supposed to. I have a BA in Marketing from Morgan State University, as well as an MBA in Management. This knowledge, combined with my professional background in Marketing and Customer Service, has provided me with valuable skills that I use daily in negotiations and educating home buyers and sellers. My clients know that they can trust me to give them my absolute best.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a relatively smooth road, with a few bumps along the way. I was a new agent, still getting my feet wet when we were faced with a global pandemic. With that, came so much uncertainty. To my surprise, people were still buying and selling houses which was great… but new processes and safety measures had to be put into place.

Aside from that, some transactions have been a bit more challenging than others but I have always had success with getting my clients to the closing table.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love all aspects of real estate and enjoy working with both buyers and sellers equally. I have always been a nurturer and I see a common denominator in most of my transactions… uncertainty. Change can be uncomfortable and while buying or selling a home is exciting, the process can also invoke feelings of fear. I educate my clients and make sure they have a clear understanding of what to expect throughout the entire process during the initial consultation. When clients know what to expect, they are less likely to be anxious as we navigate through the transaction.

What do you think about luck?
I honestly don’t believe in luck, good or bad. My faith is in God. I know that He has placed within me everything that I need to be successful in business, and life in general.
