Rising Stars: Meet BreA’na Morganfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to BreA’na Morganfield. Them and their team share their story with us below:

BreA’na Morganfield, the CEO and Founder of aBrushofBre Artistry is a self-taught, Professional Makeup Artist and Student Esthetician who believes in “Enhancing Beauty with Every Brush Stroke.”

She began her beauty journey in 2013. She first started off with practicing on herself and ventured to practicing on friends and family. In 2014, she found her niche and started taking makeup more seriously. She realized that makeup not only transforms beauty, but it is also a way of art. Skin has always been the forefront of her services. BreA’na knows exactly how it feels to struggle with acne and hyperpigmentation from acne scarring. The interest to not only help her own skin and to further help her clients’ skin sparked her interest in Esthetics. BreA’na is a recent graduate from the Institute of Epidermal Sciences. She will be sitting for her boards in Spring of 2022 and will be adding Esthetic services to her menu very soon.

Presently, BreA’na is serving the Baltimore area for many women and teens. She specializes in traditional and soft glam beauty, prom, and other special events, but BreA’na is always open to other ventures. She looks forward to creating the perfect look for you!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say that the road has been smooth, but without a struggle how do you learn and grow. I have contemplated many times about quitting makeup artistry. I moved to Baltimore from Delaware after graduating from college, so majority of my clientele was there. The thoughts of “am I good enough? Will people book me? How do I gain clientele in a new area”? all consumed my brain. For a while, I took a step back from makeup because I started believing that those thoughts are true. I had to realize that the facts are facts and thoughts are thoughts. I had to believe in myself and my artistry. I started networking with other artists by attending events and classes in the DMV and I believe that has opened many doors for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I mentioned before, I moved to Baltimore from Delaware after graduating from college. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. I think of it as Makeup Artist by day, Registered Nurse by night (I work night shift). I currently am a mother/Baby Nurse. I have always had a passion for Women’s Health and Children. I am most proud of obtaining my International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification. It was a very hard certification to obtain, but I was determined to make a difference in breastfeeding rates specifically in the black community. I wanted to be a representation in a field where many people do not look like me and that patients could relate to. I think what sets me apart from others is my determination. I’m determined to achieve every goal that I have set. How many nurses do you know that does makeup, graduated from Esthetician school and a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant? Lol

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned and still learning is “Faith over Fear.” I had to realize how much of my fear was holding me back from achieving goals because I was scared of failing. Once I started to overcome some of my fears, more opportunities were presented to me. I had to believe in myself first before anyone else could.
