Meet Cassandra Shade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Shade.

Hi Cassandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a singer and songwriter, that makes healing R&B music. I was born in Cherry Hill and moved to East Baltimore. I have two sisters and two brothers. I moved around a lot, but eventually, I settled in Woodlawn. At that time, I was around 7 or 8 years of age and I really began my musical journey. Prior to that, I used to sing myself to sleep. I found singing to be so freeing for me throughout my life. Fast-forward, as a teenager, my dad took me on as my manager and starting working with me and my sisters. My sisters lost interests and I felt I wasn’t ready to go it alone. After facing some tough experiences from homelessness, rape, pregnancy, and the death of my mom, I found that singing was still a way for me to heal myself and face those traumas.

Today I make music that channels healing vibrations and aids in healing spirit. This is in no way gospel music, it’s like hiding the medicine in the candy. The music that I make now was written to target the 7 physical chakras and remove blockages as they have done for me. My project Lucid Dreams released December 23, 2021, has 7 songs that represent each chakra. My goal now is to touch as many people as I can and in some way help them with healing vibrations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been very difficult. In this entire process, the first step was getting to know myself and then facing and fixing all the damaged parts of me first. In doing the shadow work (working on self) I gained enough courage to go this musical journey on my own. The next step I had to face was learning how to center myself. It’s important to take time to control how you react to the situations that come your way, this allows us to be present and think logically. On this road, you get a lot of doubt from people that creeps in sometimes and makes you question yourself. I had to push and really approach my music as it is a business. I learned that I need to stay organized and have a plan, as well as continue to invest in my business. It is difficult, especially when you know what’s it’s like to experience having nothing and nowhere, it makes you work harder yes but that’s the gamble you play. This world is ever-changing, it’s always hard but it’s also fun.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer and songwriter who makes healing music. My voice is unique but I have learned to infuse my emotions and energy into my music for a unique sound. My birth name is Cassandra but my stage name Shade comes from me showing the world that there are many sides to me, to any woman, to every person. That it’s ok to be proud of and embrace every one of those shades.

Any big plans?
I am currently working on my next project. I plan on adding more shows to the schedule. I also would like to get involved in some community outreach work as well. I love my city and I want to help the beautiful souls that are in it. In the future, I plan to have educational programs and centers to aid the people of Baltimore to have the knowledge needed to live free of poverty.
