Conversations with Mikey Beardown Cuz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Beardown Cuz.

Hi Mikey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2015, I started this page @_bear_down_ which was originally meant to be a fan destination page for Chicago Bears information. Over the past 6 years, it has evolved into @beardowncuz. Last year, I finally put my face to the brand and began running Instagram live shows. In particular, I began a weekly program with former Chicago Bear pro-bowl defensive lineman, Alex Brown.

Once people saw/heard my takes, got to know me more personally the page exploded into something much greater than what it once was. I have since done shows with NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, NFL Super Bowl champion and TV host Rob Ninkovich, NFL Network TV Host Adam Rank, former NFL All-Pro center Olin Kreutz, Chicago Bodybuilder and entrepreneur Joey “Swoll”.

In addition to the football/sports aspect, I also do a weekly segment WITH* Robby Berger aka “@BrilliantyDumb” on a weekly podcast called “The Brilliantly Dumb Show”***. This content includes Top 5 lists, hot takes, general banter, and sports-related, gambling advice, and stories. My content, in general, has changed from solely Chicago Bears-centric, to sports in general and sports gambling, comedy, family, and the everyday encounters of a middle-aged dad.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is a constant grind to churn out content. It’s a daily obsession and passion for me. When people appreciate, relate, and take away something from what you’ve created or said, there’s really no feeling quite like it in the world. Balancing all of that with my wife and kids, a full-time job, and other obligations are always difficult. However, I truly love what I do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for giving no-nonsense, aggressive, “the truth hurts” takes on the Chicago Bears. True fans I think appreciate my approach and honesty when it comes to the Bears. I am also known for my handicapping abilities in professional football.

As of November 2021, my season-winning percentage stands at approximately 65%. I believe, eventually, the @beardowncuz page will be solely based on my life experiences, takes, and interactions with public figures.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is absolutely necessary for life. Playing it safe is smart, it’s comfortable. However, being afraid of change (risks) will never allow you to branch out into the person you COULD become. You fail to maximize your complete potential if you are afraid to take risks. Outside noise from others is also a big factor in risk-taking.

While you should always listen to the words and advice of your most trusted inner-circle; at the end of the day, you MUST believe in yourself and make decisions/take risks that you believe will yield bountiful benefits for you and or your family.
