Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hughes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am originally from Conshohocken, PA, outside of Philadelphia. I moved to Maryland in 2009. I first lived in Prince George’s County for about 4 years before moving to Baltimore County. Since I wasn’t familiar with Maryland, I had to do a lot of exploring. This gave me the opportunity to visit different cities, learn neighborhoods and learn as much as possible about different areas for me and my family. Naturally, I love to turn a house into home. Meaning I love to get settled in. Finding comfort in new places can be challenging but I make it a priority to make sure my family is at ease. At a marketing company I worked at, one of the owners was a real estate agent. I saw the freedom she had with her family, the flexibility she had in her schedule, and the love she had for the business! I had the opportunity to ask her questions throughout the years prior to really considering it for myself. She had become very instrumental in my journey to becoming an agent. As time went on, I realized I would be ideal for this business. I love Maryland and all it has to offer and I know I could help those looking to transition to either buying, selling, and other endeavors. Timing is everything. When I got my license, the same owner of the marketing company opened her own brokerage, Vanity James Realty. Since then, I have been hitting the ground running!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think all businesses have their own bumps, twists, and turns – this definitely isn’t any different! I have to give credit to the solid foundation I have with my brokerage with the support and continued learning. Understanding the bigger picture of each transaction helps me. Every transaction is different. I give my clients clear and realistic expectations and remind them of the goal they want to achieve. With the pandemic, a lot of obstacles have come about – especially for buyers. It can be very frustrating, nerve-wracking, and just overall an emotional rollercoaster. Currently, the bidding war is real! This can be challenging for some but I’m here for it all! It is very competitive so I make sure my buyers put their best foot forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a real estate agent at Vanity James Realty. As an agent, I have the luxury of assisting those looking to rent, buy, sell, and invest, in both residential and commercial. I am also a Home Stager. This particular specialty is very beneficial for my listings. I’m aware of the market and neighborhood trends and can advise my clients and stage their homes prior to putting it on the market. This positions them in the best way possible. I take pride in providing clients with knowledge in all areas of the business. I want them to as educated on all processes and have clear understandings.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself expanding in different markets. I have networks in many places and I plan to utilize and grow as a professional within this business. Over the next 5-10 years I would like to build strong teams with other agents who know how to set themselves apart as well as grow more in commercial real estate.
