Inspiring Conversations with Latanya Porter of Latanya Porter Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latanya Porter.

Hi Latanya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up, I had a natural talent for styling hair. I never thought of it as a career option though. It was always referred to as a side hustle. While attending Morgan State University majoring in Business Administration, I decided to take a semester off to go to hair school to support myself while I earned my degree. Needless to say, I found my passion. The extrovert in me love meeting and learning about new people and building relationships with my clients, while the creative in me love to transform them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You know what they say “do what you love, and the money will follow.” For me, it has never felt like work. When I’m doing hair, I am my best version of myself. But I had to learn to be consistent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Latanya Porter Hair Inc?
Latanya Porter Hair Inc has two locations, Bowie, MD, and Vienna, VA (Tysons Corner Area). I have been in the beauty industry for over 30 years. I have watched trends come and go and come back again. I constantly educate myself on new styles, techniques, and trends, while staying innovative in an ever-changing industry. I’m known for my shortcuts, color, hair extensions, and maintaining the health of natural hair. I specialize in different forms of hair installations: traditional sew-ins, tape-ins, micro-links, frontal wigs. I’m also proud to announce the Latanya Porter Hair Collection. The collection consists of high-quality virgin hair that’s versatile, easy to manage, and can last 1-2 years with proper maintenance. I got tired of clients bringing in hair that tangled, shed, didn’t curl or color well. I felt they were missing out on half of the experience. I offer a discount to clients who purchase hair and installation from me

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck is what you make it. What some may see as bad luck, I see as an opportunity to learn, to do better. They say luck is when opportunity meets preparation. So, I try to stay prepared.
