Inspiring Conversations with Romira Young of Melanin Globe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romira Young.

Hi Romira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Melanin Globe was supposed to had been a birthday week experience with friends, and after a photo of us all sharing our passports in a circle, it went viral, and this is where it all started. We’ve been able to create a travel company that has been life-changing and a dream come true experience for people who want to travel, but do not have anyone else to travel with.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This process hasn’t been smooth. I didn’t know anything about the specifics of the travel industry, all of the information that you need to know to make sure that your travelers were safe, airline safety, guidelines and restrictions, none of the important things, in the beginning. It was really more like something I could do in my leisure time, or whenever people asked, but I never thought it would turn into a successful business.

It is important to be organized, to really get to know your clients, to ask questions and never assume, and to always be detailed. Now that we’re still traveling in the midst of the pandemic, we’ve experienced more challenges in one year than we’ve ever experienced before. If you cannot keep up, you’ll flop, fast.

As you know, we’re big fans of Melanin Globe. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Melanin Globe is a global travel company and our goal is to cater to travels, both well-traveled and new to the travel scene. We’re the “go-to” when you’ve been wanting to book an exotic vacation or a dream come true trip with friends, but they back out, and you’re still dead set on going.

90% of our travel tribe will travel alone, they’ll inquire about room matching with people that they do not know, and they’re aware that these trips will be taken with complete strangers. What sets us apart from other companies, is we’re natural caterers and women of service. Outside of Melanin Globe, our team members are mental health therapists, teachers, behavioral coaches, public service, etc.

Hosting groups is not always going to be about a good time. Some of our tribe book trips to escape the reality of what’s going on a home, or simply trying to find something specifically for themselves that brings joy. This is our goal, so we never want to make the process complicated for them.

We are most proud that even though some of our most challenging times, we pushed through, and we’re still leading our groups, still keeping them informed, still engaging, and still creating dope experiences. We are always looking for opportunities to grow as a brand, so you’ll always see us adding some new feature or trip type to the website.

How do you define success?
Success looks different for everyone. Some people would measure their success by how well they’re doing financially. I focus more on if what I am doing and the services that I offer, do they help make a difference? Do they create life-changing events, or tell a story.

How did I make you feel after our engagement, did you learn anything? It’s such a personal thing, making it inherently challenging to put my perspective into words for others to understand, but when I look back at what I’ve created, I’m able to see it very clearly, and it’s an amazing experience.
