Meet Ana Royal of Royal Achievement Tutoring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Royal.

Hi Ana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from a family of educators. My late Aunt, Flora Parker, who was a teacher in the 90s, inspired me to become a teacher at the age of 8. I graduated from Morgan State University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked as a teacher in the Baltimore City Public School System. Teaching has always been a passion and a way for me to be a part of making sure that the youth are equipped to become successful in the future.

Out of my passion for teaching, birthed my passion to make learning easier for students. I noticed that a lot of schools consisted of overcrowded classrooms and students had a great need for individualized instruction in order to reach their true potential and achieve their learning goals.

In 2017, I started Royal Achievement Tutoring, LLC to build upon students’ foundational skills and assist advanced learners to achieve their fullest potential. Since starting in 2017, we’ve helped scholars gain skills and a confidence that will aid them in the years to come. This is only the beginning for Royal Achievement Tutoring and for me, as I’m looking forward to continuing to help young scholars soar beyond their wildest dreams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During the Pandemic, for 18 months I had to learn how to cater to my students’ needs virtually. It was a challenge for me and the students, as both parties had to work to keep the efficient, strong, and healthy classroom that we built in-person.

Like many other businesses, I had to restructure Royal Achievement, to meet the needs of my students. I switched my in-person sessions to virtual sessions, which forced me to learn how to teach beyond the barrier of the screen. I sent instructional boxes and math manipulatives to all of my scholars so that they could still have a hands-on way to learn.

In the end, I was able to conquer all of these challenges by adapting and helping students to adapt along with me. I never lost my motivation to keep going throughout these challenges because I was constantly reminded of the importance of education and my presence for the students.

We’ve been impressed with Royal Achievement Tutoring, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Royal Achievement Tutoring works to bridge the gap between traditional and non-traditional learning. We provide one on one hourly tutoring sessions that focus on literacy and mathematics. Our objective is to help our scholars achieve their individual academic goals to become successful in the classroom. We work with our scholars’ teachers to strengthen and reinforce skills that are taught in the classroom.

What sets Royal Achievement Tutoring apart is our tutors have taught various grade levels, we’re well-versed in implementing strategies for students with special needs, and we offer in-person and at-home tutoring. We’re familiar with the Common Core Curriculum and we work in the school systems in which we’re serving.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory at age 7, playing with my dolls, preparing lesson plans crafted from my homework assignments. That memory will always be one to remember, as it reminds me that teaching has not always been a job for me, but it’s my passion. While attending South Main St. School, I was greatly influenced by my former elementary teachers; Ms. Howard, Ms. Harrington, and Ms. Whaley. These teachers made a true impact in my life and they’re one of the reasons that I chose teaching as my profession.
