Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Stultz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2012, I was a stay-at-home mama looking for some sort of outlet that would give me a sense of identity and purpose outside of being a mom and wife. My identical twin sister and I really wanted a great excuse to tour our own town of Frederick County Maryland and document it via our very own local blog. We thought, if anything, we’ll have fun together and the bonus would be that maybe we could even earn money from it! Once we came up with our blog name, Housewives of Frederick County, we hit the ground running! Within months we had been voted Best Blog in Frederick Magazine’s annual Best of Frederick issue. Fast forward 9 years and several Best Blog awards later: My twin sister has branched out into her own Occupational Therapy business. However, I decided to go all-in and run the blog on my own – loving every minute of it! Since my sister left the blog, I worked hard to get accepted into a highly sought-after ad network, increased my local and global business collaborations, and continue to win Best Blog in Frederick Magazine as well as Sass Magazine. I’m now making regular income from my fun little blog and continue to strive for bigger and better things!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a bumpy road. Blogging is very hard work and requires a ton of various skills – technical knowledge of WordPress, staying on top of the latest SEO challenges, keeping up with ever-changing social media platforms, continually working on my writing skills, and remaining authentic and true to my readers. Some struggles along the way have been learning how to work with businesses in order to meet their promotional needs while at the same time making it worth all the hard work, I put into it. Also, I still feel like the majority of businesses don’t appreciate the value that I offer them and therefore don’t feel that my fees are justified. This is a challenge that I don’t take lightly. Because I am an example for other bloggers, I will not accept collaborations that ask for my work in exchange for little compensation. Digital marketing is still a relatively new concept but is here to stay for the foreseeable future!
We’ve been impressed with Housewives of Frederick County LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Housewives of Frederick County LLC, a Hyperlocal + Lifestyle website has grown to be a dependable, favorite destination where women are encouraged to find the best in their daily lives.
Housewives specifically appeals to the everyday mature woman: the household decision-maker, with interests in food, fashion, shopping, family, travel, and home & garden. We help her find easy-to-make weeknight dinner recipes, amazing products & services, the perfect family day trip, and fun things to do in Frederick County Maryland, and the surrounding area.
Housewives is known for consistently being a positive presence for our readers, always inspiring to be the best we can be, while offering a go-to resource for everything to live our best lives.
What sets us apart from others is that we don’t ‘go there’ politically or negatively. We have chosen to be the cheerleader and the sunshine in our readers’ lives. We know that there are plenty of other resources out there who will provide views on politics and the doom and gloom of things going on in our world today. But our goal has always been to be an upbeat digital destination.
Brand wise, I am most proud of our staying power over the last 9 years. I’ve seen local blogs come and go. But I have stayed the course and pivoted when needed in order to remain the #1 digital resource for my loyal readers. Also, I love the fact that people recognize me wherever I go locally. That’s a testament to the loyalty that my readers have for my blog.
We are a lifestyle brand offering free content to our readers, including delicious recipes, fun things to do, gift guides, as well as lifestyle advice and tips. We also offer promotions to businesses interested in collaborating with us so that we can lend them our audience and introduce them to a whole new set of eyes from a demographic they’re looking to reach.
