Hi Laura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my journey in the beauty industry in 2004 as a pro artist for MAC cosmetics in Los Angeles. Years of wearing heavy makeup daily took a big toll on my skin. I struggled with deep acne, redness, and irritated skin which is where I dove into the world of skincare to try to self-correct my skin issues. I tried so many clinical lines and facials that claimed to help but nothing did the trick. I decided to enrolling skincare school in Vienna Virginia to try and educate myself. After completing school, I was lucky enough to get mentored by the only (and best) holistic esthetician in the DC area, Pilar DiVittorio.
Her personalized holistic approach to healing the skin, educating me about skincare, and using the best organic skincare was nothing like I’ve ever seen or experienced. Her facial treatments completely transformed my skin and working with her inspired me professionally to open my own healing facial sanctuary,
I realized there was a huge disconnect with most facial offerings in bigger SPAs around the DC area.
Treatments are rushed, protocol-based and sales-driven. Genuine human connection and care was completely missing from the equation. There wasn’t one SPA in the DC area that took the time and care to work with guests with a more heart-centered approach.
Facials can be a gateway to help our guests achieve so much more that glowing skin. It can be an educational, connected, full healing experience.
I opened Green Revolution Skin Studio in 2012 with the mission to offer curated elevated therapeutic facial treatments to help bring guests’ skin and spirit back to optimal health. Transforming the basic facial into a heart-centered healing experience that is just as nourishing for emotional health as it is for the skin,
Our facials are carefully curated for each client’s specific skin needs and customized with healing crystals, aromatherapy, energy healing, and extensive healing facial massage carefully crafted to create an experience at each visit.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started small and built up slowly, this allowed me to learn about all the elements of running a small business without getting over my head. My first space was a small room rental in a doctor’s office in Bethesda MD. I was still working part-time at a SPA as I set up shop for about 6 months before I quit completely. It took about one year to grow enough to be able to have my own space, A small private studio space which was where I learned a lot about getting organized on the business side, it was a challenge to get out there and network with other small businesses in the area to grow in visibility. I was in a basement of an office building tucked away and social media was still not much help so I had push myself to get out there and spread the word about my business daily. It took about 5 years of hard work to get my business to grow beyond just myself. I hired my first employee in 2017. Today, I have three talented estheticians working with me in a beautiful spacious studio space in the heart of Bethesda Maryland,

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I definitely see the industry changing moving to a more personalized, connected, and holistic-driven direction for personal care and treatments. With life moving in a much faster pace and guests are looking for more elevated heart-centered experiences to recharge. Genuine personalized care in smaller, safe, and beautifully designed sanctuary-styled spaces offering the best in self-care and promoting an overall healthy lifestyle.
