Daily Inspiration: Meet Kemet Dank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemet Dank.

Hi Kemet, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am an Artist, born & raised in the Baltimore area for 27 years. I’ve always been interested in art, music & film since a very young age, and over the year I’ve been patiently honing my skills in all 3 mediums. Towards the latter end of 2020, I had an idea with my Business Partner DUBRC to turn a design we developed a few years ago into a plush doll. He was fully on board, and after about 6-8months of finding a manufacturer, corrections & shipping, we were finally able to launch the brand September 2021. So far, we have been featured on a plethora of social media platforms, and sales have been coming in from all across the country. The brand is still fairly new, so all of the love & appreciation this early on is truly a blessing! This is just the beginning as we have much more in-store for Big Blunt Buddy in 2022, & we look forward to seeing people enjoying their buddies worldwide!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has honestly been pretty smooth so far, the hardest part honestly was just the wait. When you have to wait about half the year just to get 1 product, there’s only but so much planning you can do without the doll in your hand. So, I spent most of the downtime writing a commercial script, planning the marketing of the doll, & also setting up potential popup shops, locally as well as in different states. So, I advise anyone to look at a struggle or roadblock as just a time to plan more instead of letting it discourage you.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I’m mostly known for my music career above anything else. I’ve been creating music since 2005, but professionally by journey began around 2011 when I graduated high school. Since then, I’ve collaborated with numerous well-known artists/producers, as well as received a slew of write-ups in multiple publications. The achievement that I’m the most proud of to this day though, is making the cover of the now-defunct Baltimore City Paper. That was always 1 of the most influential publications in Baltimore to me because it always talked about events or issues that the Baltimore Sun were more often than not hesitant to cover. It was like an underground paper that everybody knew about, & going from growing up reading it to being on it was truly monumental for me. My Grandma was super hyped too. Lol. & What sets me apart from others? I’d just say my willingness to be myself no matter what, and always trying to innovate in whatever I do. It’s always deeper than right now to me, it’s about 100yrs from now, & making something(s) that can last that long or beyond.

How do you define success?
I define success as achieving a goal you’ve looked forward to accomplishing for a majority of your life, or reaching a place in life whereas though you have everything you need & most of the things you want, and you’re ready to reassess and figure out what’s the next level & how to get there.
