Meet Tiara Hines-Abraham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Hines-Abraham.

Hi Tiara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have a natural ability to do hair. My desire to do hair began at the early age of 12. I was always around family and family friends that were stylish. I would watch them attentively and then go and practice the style I saw them do on my friends. It has always been my dream to own a salon one day.

I knew that I wanted to go to a trade high school to take up Cosmetology with the hopes of graduating with my license. My mom strongly disagreed, back then she didn’t see becoming a hairstylist as a real career, therefore she pulled me from the program, my dream was deferred. After much discouragement, I lost my passion, and doing hair became nonexistent for a few years. As a young adult, I took on a job where I excelled and made money but I was unhappy. I began to take coworkers on as clients, I would do hair part-time. I was with this company for 13 years when things began to change and become completely uncomfortable. I decided that I no longer just wanted a job I needed a career. At this point, the only thing standing in my way of becoming a cosmetologist was me. I sought out a good school.

Once I settled on Empire Beauty School, I enrolled and my journey began. Ironically two weeks into attending classes, I was terminated from my job. I was told that the company felt I was moving in a different direction. The truth is, I was in hindsight, I know that it was God pushing me out of my comfort zone and towards my dream. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. Even though I went into school with experience, my mindset was to forget everything I thought I knew or had previously been taught about hair and just learn. It was an awesome experience. I connected with people from different backgrounds, doing so allowed me to diversify my skill set to service all hair types and textures.

I’ve been licensed for a little over nine years. I have worked as a stylist at two major corporate salons and was promoted to management while there. Those opportunities gave me the knowledge and the experience to run my business. I’ve grown! On August 28th, 2020 (my birthday) I gifted myself my own company: The Creative Brand was launched! I offer hair care and styling, makeup services, hair care products, one on one hair care classes, I recently added fashion consulting to the brand (The Creative Corner). Currently, I am an independent hair stylist at a thriving Salon in downtown Baltimore. I LOVE what I do!! I enjoy making my clients look and feel beautiful!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been far from a smooth road for me!! I’ve faced a lot of personal challenges, from loss, grief, finances, homelessness, and health issues. All these things can either make or break you, I decided to use them as my motivation to keep going and keep getting better!!!

In the words of my dad, “We bend but we don’t break!!!”

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a hairstylist of course I enjoy creating and styling. But my specialty is HAIR CARE. I am known for restoring damaged hair and creating a healthy regimen for clients to maintain what we’ve developed. I often study new products, tools and take classes beneficial to offering the best service possible for my clients.

My clients say what sets me apart from most stylists is the attention to time and detail I put into their hair, and the results we see.

How do you define success?
To be successful isn’t always all about money. In my opinion, success is personal gratification, it’s being at peace and being happy with the goals you’ve set and the achievements you’ve made.
