Meet Gigi Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Nash.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career right after Law School. For ten years, I worked in that profession while managing a family and moving around as a spouse of a Naval Officer. After giving birth to our third child, and feeling unfulfilled in my professional career, I decided to follow my passion for wellness and fitness.

I first started by teaching fitness classes and workshops, but that soon grew into helping clients with personal training and coaching. In 2006, I started what is now Mhayamovement and Mhayamovement Fitness as a way to center all of the pieces of my whole-person approach to developing healthy clients with healthy lifestyles.

Today, I am still as passionate about helping people get and remain healthy. I also now realize that mental health and wellness, developing a spirit space of connectedness and meditative movement and fitness are all part of the wellness path. Currently, working with a trauma-conscious group that also focuses on the whole person and helping to demystify the healing process has been very fulfilling.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The path has been quite interesting and full of lessons. I would not say that it has been smooth because it hasn’t. But learning and the desire to continue to evolve and be better have been catalysts that I have been able to use to move forward. Though there have been other struggles along the way, I would say that the last year and a half have been the most challenging.

When everything shut down it provided an opportunity to look at what has worked in the past and quite frankly what did not work. I learned to use technology in workshops, teaching, and training clients in ways that I had not in the past. Suddenly people from all over the world logged onto classes and the community suddenly became bigger even though we were not physically in the same space.

Personally, I took a deep dive into my own wellness routine and found better ways to connect through mindful movement and meditation that I have incorporated into what I currently create for my clients and students.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor specializing in meditative movements like Bellydance, Pilates, and Yoga among others. I teach indoor cycle classes that I also consider in that mindful movement category. I lead workshops and work with a trauma-informed practice in Maryland. We provide a holistic approach to mental and physical wellness.

I am most proud of my ability to continue to motivate people to be their own wellness advocates. For twenty years, I have somehow been connected to fitness and wellness. I believe that wellness equals wealth is truly a gift that we give ourselves. I am passionate about helping others get and stay healthy and I believe that is what I am known for. But what I believe sets me apart from others is that I also know that I am human and bring that humanity and joy to the daily process of living.

I often tell my clients that “sometimes life will get in the way of your goals – but the true goal is to let life teach you those lessons while you still stay goal-focused.” I believe in loving yourself and healing from the inside out and that is more than just a number on a scale or the size of any clothing.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My view on risk-taking is grounded in my spirituality. Walking in faith and bringing forth from the unknown to the known is what taking risks is all about. Following my passion and leaving a law career was definitely a risk. I had no idea where I would be once I left my last legal position.

But I did know that I had a family that needed me whole and healthy and a God that would provide opportunities and lessons about where my path would lead. We literally co-create with the Divine when we take risks that are on our path.
