Exploring Life & Business with Mykol Branch of Sneakerhead U Museum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykol Branch.

Hi Mykol, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early age, I was really into sneakers. I was collecting and selling sneakers since I was 13. Fast forward about 5 years I attended North Carolina central university. I was a business major at NCCU but during my college years, I developed a skill and passion for design and art. I would love to go to museums and look at art on my spare time. In June of 2020, I traveled to Atlanta and visited the trap house museum. I was so inspired by how many people visited this museum. The museum was truly unique and different which attracted 1000s of people yearly. As I was walking through the museum, I had the idea to start my own museum. I always knew I was a creative person so I felt like this would be a great thing for me to start. I loved sneakers and knew that sneaker culture was a huge thing, so right then and there I thought to create a pop-up art Museum inspired by sneaker culture and other sneaker collaborations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to success has not been smooth at all. Creating the Sneakerhead U Museum has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. It’s been numerous obstacles along the way such as getting permits approved, hiring the right people for marketing and promotion learning how build walls and framing, and even theft. At the end of the day, I kept going and preserving because I knew this museum was bigger than me and the money. I want to also inspire younger black children in Baltimore city that you can do any and be successful if you put your mind to it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The sneakerhead U Museum is a pop-up art museum inspired by sneaker culture and other popular sneaker collaborations. We have over 11 Instagrammable rooms designed around popular sneaker brands and collabs

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
If I could give credit to anyone that participated in me helping get to where I am now it would be my younger sister, grandmother, and father. They were my support system when I was trying to get the museum open. My father was literally the only person helping me build the actual museum. We literally created the entire museum alone. My sister/ investor had believed in me from day one and always tried to help when she could. She would give me weekly enjoining messages to help me get through the process. My grandmother always made sure I was okay and never overwhelmed. She would check on me daily and even helped clean museum and get it ready for inspections
