Meet Jenn Moss of EXP Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Moss.

Hi Jenn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out as an art teacher, which was my profession for about 10 years. I always wanted my students to feel like my classroom was their home- a safe place where diversity was embraced and represented through their artwork and storytelling. It was so important for me to create a home, within the classroom, where we could build new relationships and learn from one another.

I have found that the feeling of “home” is rare. No matter what age, season of life, level of success, or notoriety- there are many people spending their lives searching for that feeling of home, and every student of mine deserved to feel this sense of belonging. When the pandemic hit and we went virtual, and I wanted to find other ways to serve my community with this idea of “home” in mind.

It was my turn to implement what I always taught my students: to explore and take risks when new opportunities present themselves. In a nutshell, I went back to school to study real estate, got my license, and then started my own real estate business. This new endeavor was daunting because I didn’t want to just help people find a place to live. I wanted its foundation to be based on the premise of building relationships and creating memories, paving the way for that perfect place to call home. In order to do so, this search had to start with me and the experience I provided for my clients. It was important that my real estate service instilled trust, value, expertise, and a curated plan based upon their wants and needs in a home.

From the very beginning, I have thoroughly enjoyed helping people find homes within my community. My real estate business is currently serving Baltimore, MD, and the surrounding areas, but I am looking forward to expanding my business in the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building my real estate business has never been a “smooth” road. There have been many bumps along the way that forced me to make hard decisions and pivot. From the start, I got my real estate license at the beginning of the pandemic and then began building my new real estate business while I was teaching full-time. I juggled both jobs for about 8 months, and even though real estate started off as a part-time job, I was able to begin building the business and close multiple transactions that year. It was so tough. I was working long hours and the learning curve for real estate was massive.

Not too long after, I found out I was in my first trimester of pregnancy- still during the pandemic, still teaching full-time, and still doing real estate in the evening and on weekends. It was this moment where a big decision had to be made because I could not do it all. I made the hard decision to leave teaching in order to build my new real estate business full-time and to protect my mental health during this pregnancy. I cannot begin to tell you how scary it was to take the leap of faith to leave a career with a steady and predictable income stream, to build a business with no entrepreneurial experience and no pay guarantee whatsoever.

The silver lining of all of this is: I am so grateful for the people who believed in me and supported my decision. They are the ones who helped make this transition a success and I am so happy that I took this risk. My business is still growing and it is something that I am truly passionate about.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jenn Moss Real Estate Brokered by EXP Realty?
This past year, I started my own business, Jenn Moss Real Estate, which is brokered by EXP Realty and services Baltimore, MD, and the surrounding areas. As a Realtor® and former educator, I take it upon myself to not only provide information to my clients but also to educate them on the home buying and/or selling process.

What sets this business apart from others is my ability to provide personalized service that entails state-of-the-art technology, team collaboration, and EXP’s superior marketing materials to fully leverage the real estate market. My brokerage also provides us with the ability to not only network with other agents in Maryland but to easily communicate with agents all over the country. So, if a customer is looking to move out of state, I can interview agents in that other state, and then connect the customer with the agent who will best fulfill their needs to move.

Jenn Moss Real Estate is built on the foundation of building relationships, making memories, and helping people achieve their goals- whether that be selling their current home, or buying a new one, or achieving homeownership for the first time or even finding a rental for the time being. No matter what the goal is, each client will always receive personalized service and a plan to make their experience as smooth as possible.

What I am most proud of about this business is the implementation of all my passions into one package. I love serving my community, meeting new people, exploring creative and innovative ways to make systems better, and (most importantly) helping people find a place to call home.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
This sounds so cliché, but seriously- dedication and consistency is key when starting a new business, especially when you approach a bump in the road. When you do, look at each bump as a motivator to keep ongoing. Those bumps are just testing you. They are tests to see if you really want it. If you are following your passion, you will overcome those bumpy patches, but you must stay dedicated and consistent.

When I started out, I was building my business part-time. I wish would have known how impactful even my three hours a day working on my new business, after working a full-time job, would end up setting a strong foundation for future clients and growth a year later.

I still have a long ways to go to reach my long-term goals, but it is important to be proud of the small accomplishments you make along the way because it is all due to your dedication and consistency–and that’s not easy.
