Meet Armando DeMarchi of DC & Surrounding Areas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando DeMarchi.

Hi Armando, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out as a Production Assistant on reality television in NYC, and slowly worked my way up to Assistant Editor. Eventually I decided I wanted to get behind the camera myself to tell stories. When I moved to Virginia, I fell in with a crowd of wedding filmmakers + photographers, and became engulfed in creating. just over 5 years in, my business is exploding and I’m making memories for countless couples across the east coast.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
the biggest struggle has been time management. Learning, getting new gear, practicing with it, doing sound design, color grading, editing, asset storage/delivery/management, consulting with couples, creating content for social media, advertising, and being a small business all wear you down. I work a 9-5 while also serving my couples, and I hope to soon make the leap into being a full time videographer and editor.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My approach to a wedding day is to give a real sense of what it feels like to be there celebrating with the couple, punctuated with some stunning portrait cinematic shots. My edit tends to reflect your energy – a couple who loves dancing and is animated will have a quicker paced edit that showcases movement. A couple who may be more reserved and into aesthetics will move me to create a more slow, dramatic beautiful film. Being a chameleon, is not only challenging, it is necessary to make sure you are giving your couples exactly what they want. I also find this gives me an opportunity to learn grow, and try out different things.

How do you define success?
Not worrying about how and when you have to spend your time and money. Doing things because they bring you joy, not strictly out of necessity. In my creative work, success is harder to measure. Did I accurately reflect the emotions of the day? Did I do my best? Did I make them look as good as they did that day? It’s hard not to be a perfectionist, bu then we would never finish any projects!
