Today we’d like to introduce you to Sana.
Hi Sana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has been shaped by both my passion for healthcare and my desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
I started my career as a nurse, where I quickly realized that mental health was deeply connected to every aspect of a person’s overall well-being. I became especially interested in understanding not just the symptoms people were experiencing, but the person behind those symptoms—their experiences, challenges, relationships, and goals.
That led me to pursue advanced practice nursing and become a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My background in primary care has given me a unique perspective because I’m able to look at mental health from a whole-person standpoint rather than treating it in isolation.
Over time, I developed a strong interest in conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, and women’s mental health. I also realized how important it is for patients to feel genuinely heard and understood, especially when they may have struggled for years to find the right diagnosis or treatment.
That ultimately inspired me to build my own practice, where I could create the kind of healthcare experience I believe patients deserve—one that combines evidence-based medication management with genuine conversation, education, and individualized care.
Today, I’m grateful to be able to help people navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives and to be part of their journey toward feeling better, functioning better, and becoming more confident in their mental health. For me, being a psych NP is not just about prescribing medication; it’s about listening, understanding, and helping patients find a path forward.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing the demands of being a healthcare provider while also building my own practice. Starting a practice comes with a completely different set of responsibilities—credentialing, insurance, technology, marketing, finances, and all the behind-the-scenes work that patients never see. There were definitely moments when I questioned whether I was taking on too much.
Another challenge has been learning to navigate the emotional side of mental healthcare. As a provider, you become invested in your patients and their stories. You want to help everyone, but you also have to learn that you can’t control every outcome. Sometimes progress is slow, and sometimes patients face circumstances that medication alone can’t fix.
There have also been plenty of moments of self-doubt and uncertainty along the way. But those challenges taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of continuing to learn and grow.
Looking back, I’m actually grateful that the road wasn’t easy. Every obstacle has helped shape the provider I am today. It has made me more empathetic toward my patients because I understand that everyone is dealing with something we may not see on the surface. I think those experiences have ultimately made me a better clinician and a more compassionate person.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Pristine Mental Healthcare is a mental health practice built around one simple idea: people deserve to feel heard, understood, and treated as a whole person—not just a diagnosis.
As a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring both primary care and psychiatric experience to my practice. That allows me to look at mental health from a broader perspective and consider how physical health, medications, sleep, hormones, lifestyle, stress, and life circumstances can all influence how someone feels.
We specialize in individualized psychiatric care for concerns including ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, PMDD, and other mental health conditions. Our services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, ongoing follow-up care, and supportive therapeutic conversations. We work with children, adolescents, and adults and strive to make care accessible and comfortable, particularly for people who may have felt overlooked or misunderstood in traditional healthcare settings.
What sets Pristine Mental Healthcare apart is the personal approach. I don’t believe mental healthcare should feel like simply checking boxes on a symptom checklist and writing a prescription. I take the time to understand the individual—what they are experiencing, what they have tried before, what is working or not working, and what they ultimately want their life to look like.
I’m also proud of the fact that Pristine was built with the goal of making quality mental healthcare more approachable and less intimidating. Seeking psychiatric care can still carry a lot of stigma, and I want patients to feel that asking for help is a sign of strength rather than something to be ashamed of.
From a brand perspective, I’m most proud that Pristine represents compassion, professionalism, and individualized care. My goal isn’t simply to grow a practice; it’s to build a trusted healthcare brand where patients feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for.
Ultimately, I want readers to know that mental health treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. There isn’t a single medication, diagnosis, or treatment plan that works for everyone. At Pristine Mental Healthcare, we focus on finding the right approach for the individual and helping each patient move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to be patient with yourself and remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out on day one.
When I was starting out, I wish I had understood that building a career—or building a business—takes time. It’s easy to compare yourself to people who seem to be years ahead of you, but you rarely see everything that happened behind the scenes to get them there.
I would also encourage people to be willing to learn things outside of their comfort zone. Clinical knowledge is incredibly important, but when you’re building something of your own, you also have to learn about business, finances, marketing, networking, technology, and leadership. You won’t know everything, and that’s okay. Ask questions, find mentors, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Most importantly, stay true to why you started. There will be setbacks, difficult days, and moments when you question yourself. Those moments don’t mean you’re failing—they’re part of the process.
I wish I had realized earlier that success doesn’t happen overnight. Focus on doing good work, treating people well, continuing to learn, and building something you’re genuinely proud of. If you stay consistent and keep moving forward, the results will eventually follow.
