Today we’d like to introduce you to Blessing Floyd.
Hi Blessing, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in the beauty industry started long before BelMar Blu Skincare. I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 15 years, beginning with natural hair and makeup. I’ve always loved helping people feel beautiful, but over time, my passion evolved into something deeper. I became increasingly interested in skin health and in creating an experience where people could not only see a difference in their skin, but also have a space where they could slow down, feel cared for, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.
That passion eventually led me to become a licensed esthetician and, ultimately, to create BelMar Blu Skincare. BelMar Blu was built from my love for beauty, wellness, and genuine connection with people. I wanted to create something that felt different from the traditional spa experience. A space that was intimate, welcoming, educational, and luxurious without feeling intimidating. I want my clients to understand their skin, feel comfortable asking questions, and know that their treatment is being customized specifically for them rather than receiving a one size fits all service.
Building BelMar Blu has stretched me in ways I never expected. Being a great esthetician and being a great business owner require two completely different skill sets, and entrepreneurship has challenged me to learn everything from marketing and finances to customer experience, boundaries, and simply trusting myself enough to keep going.
One of the most rewarding parts has been watching the relationships that have grown through this business. Some clients have trusted me with their skin for years. I’ve watched people become more confident, prioritize themselves, prepare for important moments in their lives, and sometimes simply come into the studio needing an hour where someone else takes care of them. That’s ultimately what I want BelMar Blu to represent. Yes, we care about beautiful, healthy skin and results, but it’s bigger than skincare for me. I’m building a place where people feel seen, cared for, and encouraged to make taking care of themselves part of their lifestyle.
BelMar Blu is still growing, and so am I. I’m incredibly grateful for how far we’ve come, and I truly believe we’re only getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our number one obstacle at the moment is visibility. Marketing is such an important, yet often underestimated, part of building a business. It is almost impossible to grow if people don’t know you exist. It’s been a learning curve figuring out how to consistently create content, reach the right audience, and budget for ads and other forms of marketing while still managing the day to day responsibilities of running a business.
Thank God for word of mouth! Some of our greatest growth has come from clients sharing their experiences and recommending BelMar Blu Skincare to others. It’s a reminder that while visibility gets people through the door, the experience we provide is what keeps them coming back and encourages them to tell someone else.
Visibility is a challenge that BelMar Blu Skincare will overcome as we continue to strengthen our brand, expand our reach, and find creative ways to connect with the people who need what we offer. Every challenge has pushed me to become more intentional, resourceful, and confident as a business owner, and I’m excited to see where that growth takes us next.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about BelMar Blu Skincare?
At BelMar Blu Skincare, our work is centered around personalized skincare, beauty, and creating an experience that allows our clients to look and feel their best. While customized skincare is at the heart of what we do, BelMar Blu has grown to offer a range of services including customized and advanced facial treatments, brow services, professional makeup, and our Solara Membership for clients who want to make consistent self-care and skin maintenance part of their lifestyle.
One thing I’m especially proud of is that we don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. Every client’s skin, lifestyle, concerns, and goals are different, so our treatments are intentionally customized to meet them where they are. Education is also a huge part of the experience. I want clients to understand their skin and feel confident caring for it between appointments instead of feeling overwhelmed by complicated routines or constantly changing skincare trends.
Our brow and makeup services are another extension of that philosophy. Whether we’re enhancing someone’s natural brows, creating a look for a special occasion, or preparing a bride for one of the biggest days of her life, my approach has always been to enhance what is already there while making the client feel like the best version of themselves.
We also offer the Solara Membership, which was created for clients who want consistency with their skincare and self care. Rather than viewing a facial as something you only book for a special occasion or when there’s a problem, the membership encourages clients to prioritize themselves regularly while working toward their long-term skin goals.
What I believe sets BelMar Blu apart is our ability to balance results with experience. You shouldn’t have to choose between receiving an effective treatment and being able to relax. I’ve worked hard to create an environment where clients can receive professional, results driven services while also having permission to disconnect, exhale, and be taken care of.
Some of my proudest moments aren’t necessarily tied to a before and after photo. They’re when a client tells me they finally feel confident without makeup, when someone trusts me with their wedding day, when a member makes their monthly appointment a nonnegotiable part of their self care, or when a client refers someone they love to us. Those moments remind me that what we do at BelMar Blu extends far beyond skin and beauty.
How do you define success?
Success, for me, has changed a lot since becoming an entrepreneur. In the beginning, it was easy to associate success with being fully booked, reaching a certain revenue goal, or seeing the business grow quickly. While those things are important, I’ve learned that success is much bigger than numbers.Today, I define success as building a business that is both impactful and sustainable. I want BelMar Blu Skincare to be a place where clients genuinely feel cared for, where they see real progress in their skin, and where taking care of themselves becomes something they prioritize rather than feel guilty about. Success also means creating something that gives me the freedom to live a full life outside of my business. I don’t want entrepreneurship to mean constantly working or sacrificing everything else that matters to me. I want to build a business that can grow, create opportunities for others, and continue serving our community without requiring me to lose myself in the process.
I think there are different levels of success. Sometimes success is reaching a major milestone, and sometimes it’s simply looking back and realizing that you kept going through a season when quitting would have been easier.
