Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Graham.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path into esthetics wasn’t necessarily a straight line, but looking back, it makes perfect sense. I originally went to college for nursing right out of high school because I knew I wanted a career where I could care for people and make a difference. At the time, though, I wasn’t quite ready for college and ultimately decided to step away.
I still knew I wanted to work in a field where I could help people feel better, so I decided to pursue esthetics. I completed my Lash Artist certification in 2022 and then went on to complete the esthetics program at Fortis Institute in Towson, and that’s where I really fell in love with skincare and the science behind it. What started as an interest in beauty quickly became much more about skin health, education, and helping people feel confident in their own skin.
My career really grew when I entered the med spa industry and joined Really Beautiful Faces Med Spa. Working alongside nurses and a nurse practitioner exposed me to the medical side of aesthetics and allowed me to continue expanding my knowledge. Over the years, I’ve been able to grow my clientele, continue my education, learn new treatments and technologies, and become someone my clients trust not only with their skin, but with their confidence.
Interestingly enough, working in medical aesthetics also brought me full circle. Being surrounded by medical professionals reminded me how much I still loved healthcare, and it ultimately encouraged me to return to nursing school. Today, I’m balancing nursing school with my career as a licensed esthetician, with the goal of eventually combining both sides of my education and experience.
Esthetics will always be a huge part of who I am. I love that my career allows me to combine science, beauty, education, and genuine connection with people…and I feel like I’m still just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s part of what has made the journey so rewarding.
One of my biggest challenges early on was simply figuring out where I belonged! Walking away from nursing school the first time felt like I was changing the plan I had for myself, but it ultimately led me to esthetics and a career that I genuinely love.
Building a career in esthetics also takes time. You don’t graduate with a full clientele waiting for you. There are slow days, moments when you question yourself, and a lot of pressure to constantly grow, learn, market yourself, and keep up with an industry that is always changing. Building trust with clients has been one of the most important parts of my career, and that doesn’t happen overnight.
Now, one of my biggest challenges is balancing my career with nursing school. There are definitely days when juggling clients, studying, exams, clinicals, and everyday life feels a little overwhelming. But I’ve learned that I can handle much more than I used to give myself credit for.
I think every stage has taught me something different: patience, consistency, confidence, and especially that your path doesn’t have to look exactly how you originally imagined it. Sometimes changing direction is what gets you exactly where you’re supposed to be!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the lead licensed esthetician at Really Beautiful Faces Med Spa in downtown Bel Air, where I specialize in customized, results-driven skincare, brow and intimate waxing, and lash artistry, along with helping my clients feel confident in their skin. I offer a variety of services, but skincare is really where my passion lies—from customized facials and dermaplaning to more advanced treatments like chemical peels, nanoneedling, microneedling, and other corrective treatments.
One thing that’s really important to me is that I never want a treatment to feel “one size fits all.” I love getting to know my clients, understanding their skin concerns and lifestyle, and creating a plan that actually makes sense for them. I’m also big on education. I want my clients to understand their skin, why we’re choosing certain treatments or products, and what they can realistically expect from them. I think that trust and transparency are a huge part of why I’ve been able to build such strong, long-term relationships with my clients.
I’d say I’m known for creating an experience that feels comfortable and relaxing while still being focused on results. I never want someone to feel intimidated walking into my treatment room or pressured into doing something they don’t need. Whether someone is coming to me for acne, aging concerns, overall skin health, or simply an hour to themselves, I want them to leave feeling cared for and more confident than when they walked in.
What I’m most proud of is the clientele and relationships I’ve built throughout my career. There is something incredibly rewarding about having clients trust me with their skin, lashes, and brows year after year, refer their friends and family to me, and allow me to be part of their lives beyond just their appointments.
I think what sets me apart is my genuine love of learning and caring for people. Working in medical aesthetics sparked an even deeper interest in the science behind what I do and ultimately played a role in my decision to return to nursing school. Continuing my nursing education has given me an entirely new perspective on the body, health, and patient care that complements my work as an esthetician.
For me, esthetics has never been about chasing perfection. It’s about helping someone understand and care for the skin they’re in while creating a space where they feel comfortable, heard, and confident. That’s the kind of provider I always want to be. <3
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a big believer in having resources that help me grow professionally, but also having things that help me completely unplug.
Professionally, I love continuing education and following other estheticians, skincare professionals, and educators on social media because this industry is constantly evolving. I use Instagram not only for inspiration, but also as a way to educate my own clients and stay connected with the aesthetics community. I love following local estheticians and brands, but also follow your typical “stars” like Savanna Boda, and Michael Razzano… and I stay up all night on TikTok watching facial videos from Bri Parsons.
Outside of work and nursing school, reading is one of my favorite ways to decompress. I especially love fantasy and romantasy series like A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fourth Wing. Between work and school, life can get pretty busy, so having something that lets me shut my brain off and get lost in a completely different world is definitely a form of self-care for me.
