Hi Myia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off as just a girl who loved keeping her hair done. Hair was always something I enjoyed, it was a way for me to express myself, feel confident, and step into rooms feeling my best. What started as a love for doing my own hair eventually grew into something bigger. I began styling hair for others and realized that I didn’t just enjoy creating beautiful styles but I fell more in love with the entire process of helping else feel good about themselves. As my journey continued, my perspective on hair began to change. I started to learn more and understand that it’s not just about how your hair looks on the outside, but how you care for your natural hair in between or underneath styling.
Protective styles can be very beautiful, but the true beauty comes from understanding that your natural hair still needs attention, moisture, nourishment and consistency. I became more passionate about learning how to properly care for my hair and encouraging others to do the same. That passion led me to explore natural, plant based alternatives and how they contribute to a healthier hair and body care routine. This is where my vision began to grow bigger. From styling hair to creating products, every step of my continuous journey has taught me something new.
What started with hair styling evolved into a passion for hair care. That passion eventually became the foundation for Ionia’s Organics, my plant based brand created with the intention to help people care for themselves naturally. I’m still that girl who loves keeping her hair done but now I’m a woman who makes it a priority to love, care, and nurture the natural hair and body I was blessed with. All while spreading awareness to others!
My brand is more than just products. It’s an authentic representation of my growth, creativity, my love for hair, and my desire to create something meaningful from what started as a small passion. This is my journey. This is my purpose. This is Ionia’s Organics.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although my journey hasn’t always been easy, every challenge, setback, or redirection has been worth it. When you’re building something powerful, you encounter many trials and errors. In some seasons it has felt like many more errors than trials. Through those moments you learn, you grow, you make adjustments, and most importantly you keep going! I’ve faced many moments of doubt and times when things never went as planned but each experience has helped shape me into who I am today. I am learning to embrace the process, celebrate the small wins, and trust that every step is preparing me for where I am meant to go.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Creating has always been a huge part of who I am. My career path has given me the opportunity to turn my ideas, creativity, and passion into something real. Real enough to empower others. From creating hairstyles to creating products, I’ve always found joy in transforming a vision into reality. Creating is way more than just work, it’s how I express myself, how I grow, and how I continue to build something that is truly my own. Every style, product, or new idea is another piece of my journey and I am so grateful that I get to make a career out of doing what I love.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe there will always be major shifts or trends in any industry. My goal isn’t to keep up with the next big trend. My goal is to impact and bring awareness to as many people as possible. With doing so, I intend to have a more successful online business and eventually a successful store front.
