Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Schuster.
Hi Ron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a Plastic surgeon for over 35 years. It all began as a medical student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. During my surgical rotations, I was introduced to Plastic surgery and became attracted to the detailed nature of the surgery. After completing five years of General surgery I accepted a position to the residency program at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, MO. There, I completed a three year training which included Fellowships in both Cosmetic Surgery and Craniofacial Surgery. During that time I was able to travel around the country to spend time learning techniques from masters at the time. I returned to Baltimore to enter private practice with special interest in Cosmetic surgery. Since 1991 I have been able to expand on the advanced techniques that I learned in order to provide my patients the best possible results. Today I continue to have special interests in facial cosmetic surgery such as facelifts, eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty, in addition to breast and body contour surgery. The extensive experience I have gained through the years allows me to understand my patients’ goals and provide them with successful, safe and predictable solutions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My medical and surgical journey has had many ups and downs with respect to the demanding nature of education and training. Some things come easy, others take more time to master. I have always been comfortable with learning the art of patient care and the technical challenges of surgical procedures.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always had a special interest in facial cosmetic surgery. Learning the anatomy and understanding how that can be changed is of great interest. Understanding patients’ insecurities, desires and goals in important in order help guide them on their journey. I believe I am best known for my ability to listen empathetically, give honest opinions and deliver superior results.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Technology will certainly influence Plastic surgery well into the future. Technological advancements in how tissues respond to different types of energy and how we can improve healing are already happening at an accelerating pace. AI will not only help research develop new products, but it will allow doctors to provide more focused care and hopefully better communication.
