Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiimy Reid.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
2017 I was just a girl (i wasn’t non-binary at the time) who graduated high school and got stuck at a crossroads. I decided to make the bravest decision by reconnecting with the one thing I knew would bring me eternal joy (Creativity). It all started with a canvas and a dream then later on transformed into many different media’s.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hell no
There’s no such thing as smooth roads in any point of life, but the struggles I’ve endured as a creative doesn’t even compare to the struggles I deal with in everyday life. It started with identity issues trying to find my style, put my name out there, and even questioning if this would lead me towards freedom. Eventually the identity issues faded away thanks to the support from everyone however there were bigger problems a foot.
No one tells you this, but the road requires a LOT of PATIENCE!
You MUST observe
You MUST use your intuition
You NEVER sell yourself short
You ALWAYS stay true to you and you beliefs
and most importantly BE YOURSELF
Remember that everything isn’t always what it seems which is why eventually trends fade. You must be the example because there’s always someone looking up to you. Rihanna said it perfectly in an interview, “Everyone has their own definition of a role model” to one person I maybe their role model while the other I could be a disgrace however I can’t just stop being me just because one thinks I’m a disgrace. There are more people out there that thinks what you’re doing is cool plus it brings you joy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My practice is rooted in the surrealism of “the world beyond the looking glass.” Transitioning from a foundational growth phase into a versatile creator, I seamlessly navigate a diverse range of mediums—including photography, painting, styling, creative direction and fashion/graphic/set design. I’m pretty much a jack of all trades if you name it I most definitely can figure it out in a day or two!
My work is characterized by a commitment to balance between community and aesthetic innovation. I’m known for my community work from creative directing the 2024 magazine spread for Nunar to contributing paintings to benefit relief efforts for Gaza. It also remains an exploration of fluidity and the elemental tools provided by nature.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Mannnnnnnnn where do I begin!?
My mother for providing a beautiful example of what Art is supposed to be
My Aunt (Rest in Peace) for bringing color, style, and self expression into my life
Ky, Johnny, Saraii, Kami, Iahndra, Tamira and Maison for creating a safe space for me to openly express myself through style and art
ROTS, Empy, Euro, and Bby Africka for giving me a chance in NYC when I was honestly just starting to gain traction!
Every single model/team member/company for given me the start to expand my portfolio along with creating a safe space for me to grow in my artistry
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MYSELF – I recently saw a photo on my archive story back in 2018 where I destroyed my studio saying I was giving up. I’m very happy that I didn’t give up because I came so far and on top of that it’s only been 9 years! Little me is so proud because I’m staying true to my dreams with creating being the MOST consistent ever!
