Community Highlights: Meet Jefferson Butler of Butler Cooking LLc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jefferson Butler.

Hi Jefferson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story starts back when I was a young boy. We had a family catering business run by my grandmother Etta Butler, Grandma Booney! This is where I learned the behind the scenes of catering. My earliest memories are of my family working side by side at different catering jobs together, it was our culture. Fast forward to 2016 I started Butler cooking after getting into a car accident where I totaled by car. That moment sparked the journey of what butler cooking is today! I have catered many events, meal prepped for different clients, provided food on a movie set, provided food to my community to aid in food crisis, I have helped diabetic clients reverse their diagnosis and now I am providing cooking classes to teach adults and children how to cook different types of cuisine. To get to this point has taken, patience, making hard decisions and pushing forward even when I was in doubt. I quit my job after covid February 10th, 2021. At that time, I recognized through innovation and hard work I made the most money in my business during a shut down. That gave me the confidence to move forward and take my business full time. Ive focused on progress over perfection or recognition and that has along with putting God first has driven what Butler Cooking LLC is today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not all bad and it wasn’t all smooth. As an entrepreneur especially early on it felt like a roller coaster. Probably because I started my business out of a hustle mind set without setting up proper business structures early on. I experienced financial dips due to lack of budget, improper pricing and lack of solid ways to pay myself. Saying yes to everything was a struggle because I didn’t need to try and do every single job. Over commitment can be detrimental. Also family/friend took a hit not having boundaries with business early on to set that time aside.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Jefferson Butler, owner and founder.
With over 10 years of experience, I specialize in catering, cooking classes, and private dining. As an official vendor for Baltimore City Schools, I’ve partnered with schools to provide catering services and culinary programs, teaching over 100 students how to cook, including plant-based recipes.

I am very proud to be author of The Transformation Cookbook, where I share my passion for healthy and flavorful plant based dishes.

I’m passionate about community service. I give back by feeding the homeless, providing meals for youth organizations and after-school programs, and working with nonprofits. Through these partnerships I’ve helped kids develop skills in cooking, customer service, hospitality, communication, and entrepreneurship in the culinary field.
