Today we’d like to introduce you to Paris Johnson.
Hi Paris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hey, so I’m a comic book illustrator / writer with a creation of my own, currently in development. A limited series set in a Baltimore of the future called Ghostwing. When it’s ready, I’m going to self-publish through kickstarter. I’m currently promoting my characters through my web site at www.ghostwingcomics.com along with tick tock, and instagram (mostly these days) with some cool surprises on the way in the next couple of months. I’m really excited for what’s to come down the line.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
any road worth taking, always comes with its fair share of challenges and my path is no exception. with me, most of my challenges have been based on things that are beyond my control such as software issues. technical difficulties that occur with the program that I use to create my artwork. these moments, though temporary due come with an opportunity where I have to think outside of the box and make a lateral move to focus my energy on say polishing up the script. Or maybe working on drafts for upcoming pages in my comic book series. Situations like those teach me patience and it reminds me to ask myself just how badly I want to achieve my goal. To let nothing stand in my way regardless of how inventive I have to get, within reason of course.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been an artist all my life. I’m known for nothing, if I’m not known for what I create on a canvas. I’ve had a love that ranges from sculpting (various mediums) to painting, I even toyed with a few fashion design concepts once upon a time. But for some reason drawing cartoons and comic book characters was the one constant in my life until I started creating characters of my own at age twelve, I don’t know why but I just knew that I wanted to be in the comic book industry BUT I absolutely wanted to be a professional comic book artist working on my own Intellectual Property. the style of comic book art as well as manga just resonated with me. I find that creating these kinds of stories is how I can mostly express myself.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
my greatest motivation that inspires me to do my best in life, in my work has always been my parents, my brother and to be honest I’d have to say God. growing up people have always said that my talent in art is a gift from God. My parents have always nurtured my skill set and my brother always served as a muse for allot of the stories that I create through my artwork.
