The Story of DJ Zemi
Music has always been more than just sound to me—It’s how I communicate with people . Before I ever touched a controller, I was the person who paid attention to the energy in every room, the songs that made people smile, and the moments that created unforgettable memories. That’s when I realized I didn’t just want to attend the party—I wanted to create the experience.
I started DJing because I wanted to be more than someone who simply played music. I wanted to become the one who curated the vibe.
Today, I’m known for delivering high-energy sets that blend very well (Blend princess). Whether I’m performing at festivals, clubs, Pride celebrations, or private events, my goal remains the same: create a moment people will never forget. Build a legacy.
Looking ahead, I’m focused on expanding the DJ Zemi brand beyond DC—playing bigger stages, collaborating with more brands, traveling nationwide, and continuing to create spaces where everyone feels welcome. This is only the beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges in my journey wasn’t learning how to DJ—it was trying to grow in my own city. For a long time, I felt like I had to constantly prove myself and fight for opportunities that didn’t always come. It was frustrating because I knew what I was capable of, but sometimes the recognition just wasn’t there.
Eventually, I realized something that changed my perspective: my purpose wasn’t limited to one city. There were opportunities waiting for me in places I had never imagined. Once I stopped focusing on where I wasn’t being embraced and started putting my energy into new cities and new relationships, doors began to open.
That shift taught me an important lesson—you don’t have to stay where you’re tolerated when you can go where you’re celebrated. Expanding beyond my hometown allowed me to connect with new communities, build my brand, and grow as both a DJ and an entrepreneur.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for curating parties in the lesbian night life. I am most proud of being a positive influence in the community. I am driven and always looking for ways to bring people together. I am creative and always thinking outside the box when it comes to events.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is music. Music has a way of connecting people in ways that words alone can’t. You can relate to an artist’s story, emotions, or experiences, and sometimes a song says exactly what you’re feeling when you can’t find the words yourself.
