Life & Work with T’Aisha Woodard of Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to T’Aisha Woodard.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story began in Baltimore, Maryland, where I developed an early curiosity about people—their experiences, what shapes their behavior, and how the right support can completely change someone’s life. That curiosity eventually grew into a passion for mental health and helping others, which led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology at Coppin State University. Today, I’m continuing that journey by pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Morgan State University.

I’ve never viewed my education as the finish line—I see it as the foundation. My bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology has given me a deeper understanding of human behavior and mental health, while my MSW is preparing me to advocate for individuals, families, and communities while addressing challenges on both a personal and systemic level. Together, both degrees are equipping me with the knowledge, compassion, and leadership skills to build something that can truly make a difference.

My vision has always been much bigger than simply earning a degree and getting a job. My goal is to one day open mental health clinics across multiple states that provide accessible, compassionate, and culturally responsive care. I want to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health while expanding access to quality behavioral healthcare. I want to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered, regardless of their background or circumstances.

At the same time, I’ve never wanted to limit myself to one career path. I’ve always envisioned myself as an entrepreneur with multiple businesses. That mindset started in high school when my mom introduced me to entrepreneurship by helping me sell customized jewelry, including personalized name earrings, bracelets, purses, and other accessories. At the time, I didn’t realize she was teaching me lessons about ownership, branding, and creating opportunities for myself. Looking back, that’s where the entrepreneurial seed was planted.

As I’ve gotten older, that passion has only continued to grow. I’ve also learned a great deal by watching my younger sister build her own business, ArdenBNailCo. At just 17 years old, she’s a talented nail technician, and seeing someone so young pursue entrepreneurship with confidence has challenged and inspired me to continue thinking bigger about my own goals. Watching her build her brand, connect with clients, and continue investing in herself has reminded me that entrepreneurship is about more than making money—it’s about creating something meaningful, serving others, and building a life on your own terms.

Today, that vision continues to expand. In addition to my long-term goals in behavioral health, I’m currently working on launching my own hair extension brand, and I also plan to invest in real estate. One of my biggest goals is to develop commercial suites from the ground up—creating spaces where businesses, professionals, and community services can thrive. I enjoy building ideas that extend beyond one industry because I believe entrepreneurship isn’t about putting yourself in one box; it’s about creating opportunities wherever you’re called to make an impact.

More than anything, I want to build a legacy—not something that’s only successful for the moment, but something that continues creating opportunities and changing lives long after I’m gone. Whether it’s through mental health, entrepreneurship, beauty, or real estate, I want every venture to reflect purpose, excellence, and service. I want to create businesses that not only provide value but also inspire others to dream bigger, invest in themselves, and realize that they don’t have to choose between making an impact and building wealth.

People often ask what I want to do after graduate school, and my answer is never just one thing. I don’t believe in putting limits on my potential. I believe my education is preparing me to better understand people, my entrepreneurial mindset is preparing me to create opportunities, and together they’re helping me build the future I’ve always envisioned. At the end of the day, I don’t just want a successful career—I want to leave behind a legacy that my family, my community, and future generations can be proud of.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe every challenge has shaped the person I’m becoming. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that earning a degree isn’t just about going to class—it’s about learning how to keep showing up, even when life doesn’t slow down.

Both my undergraduate and graduate school journeys have come with their own challenges. Earning my bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology required years of commitment, perseverance, and sacrifice. Then, after graduating, I made the decision to continue my education by pursuing my Master of Social Work. Choosing to go back to school wasn’t just another academic step—it was a commitment to investing in myself and my future, knowing it would require even more discipline, time, and sacrifice.

Throughout both journeys, I’ve had to balance being a full-time student while also working full-time. At the same time, I’ve had to make sure I was still making time for myself, maintaining relationships with family and friends, and managing the everyday responsibilities that come with adulthood. There have been moments when life felt overwhelming, and I had to remind myself why I started in the first place.

I’ve also had to learn that not everything happens overnight. As someone with big goals, it’s easy to want everything to come together quickly. But building a meaningful career, launching businesses, and creating the life I envision takes patience. I’ve learned to appreciate the small wins, trust the process, and understand that every season is preparing me for what’s next.

Those experiences have taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of giving myself grace. They’ve shown me that success isn’t about having a perfect journey—it’s about staying committed even when things get difficult. Looking back, I realize that every challenge has strengthened my character and reinforced my belief that the life I’m working toward will be worth every sacrifice.

One thing I remind myself often is that I’m not just building a career—I’m building a legacy. That perspective keeps me grounded during the difficult seasons because I know the work I’m putting in today is laying the foundation for opportunities that will extend far beyond me

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At this stage in my journey, I would describe myself as someone who’s intentionally building the foundation for the future I envision. I’m currently pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Morgan State University, and every experience is preparing me for the larger impact I hope to make in the behavioral health field.

At the heart of everything I do is a genuine desire to understand people. That’s what first drew me to psychology, what led me to pursue social work, and what continues to shape the vision I have for my future. My background in Applied Psychology and my graduate education in Social Work have given me a deeper appreciation for how mental health, environment, relationships, and life experiences shape individuals and communities. Those perspectives have strengthened my passion for advocating for accessible mental healthcare and creating meaningful, lasting change.

Beyond my education, I’m also building toward entrepreneurship. I’m currently developing a hair extension brand and have long-term goals of opening mental health clinics across multiple states and investing in commercial real estate. While those ventures are still in development, they’re all connected by one purpose: creating opportunities, serving communities, and building something that lasts.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just earning my bachelor’s degree or pursuing my master’s—it’s having the vision to keep building. Continuing my education has required discipline, consistency, and sacrifice, but every step has reinforced my belief that success is built one decision at a time. I’m proud that I never stopped investing in myself, even when the journey required patience and perseverance.

I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t see education and entrepreneurship as separate paths—I see them as partners. My education gives me the knowledge to better understand people, while entrepreneurship gives me the opportunity to create solutions, build businesses with purpose, and expand my impact beyond what I could accomplish in a traditional career alone.

I’m intentional about everything I build because I’m not chasing short-term success—I’m building a legacy. Whether it’s through mental health, entrepreneurship, beauty, or real estate, my goal is to create opportunities that outlive me and leave a lasting impact on the people and communities I serve

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is living a life of purpose and building a legacy that extends beyond myself. I don’t want to simply achieve success for the moment—I want to create something that continues to positively impact people and communities long after I’m gone. Whether that’s through mental health, entrepreneurship, education, or real estate, I want everything I build to have meaning and create opportunities for others.

My family also means everything to me. They’ve played a huge role in shaping who I am today. My mom introduced me to entrepreneurship at a young age, planting the seed that I could create opportunities for myself instead of waiting for them. Watching my younger sister build her business has continued to inspire me and reminds me that ambition and determination have no age limit. Having that support system has reinforced the importance of surrounding yourself with people who encourage you to dream bigger.

I’m also deeply committed to continuous growth. I believe there’s always something new to learn, whether it’s through education, business, or life experiences. That’s one of the reasons I chose to continue my education after earning my bachelor’s degree. Every lesson, every challenge, and every opportunity helps shape the leader and entrepreneur I’m striving to become.

At the end of the day, I want my life to stand for more than personal achievement. I want to be remembered as someone who opened doors for others, led with compassion, and built businesses with purpose. If I can leave this world knowing I helped improve lives and inspired others to believe in what’s possible for themselves, then I’ll consider that my greatest success.
