Meet Denise Morris of DC & Surrounding Areas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Morris.

Hi Denise, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, my mother’s cancer diagnosis completely changed the way I thought about the products we bring into our homes. I’ve always loved candles, but when I learned that many traditional candles contain ingredients that can negatively impact indoor air quality, I knew there had to be a better option. That realization sparked a passion for creating something better—products that are luxurious and wellness focused.
My background in biology and chemistry gave me the confidence to understand the science behind clean candle making, while my MBA equipped me with the tools to build a business driven by purpose. In 2022, I founded Annai’s Halo with the vision of proving that people shouldn’t have to choose between beautiful design, exceptional fragrance, and healthier products for their homes.
What started as a hobby with a DIY kit from Amazon has grown into a luxury home fragrance brand offering clean-burning candles, and other home fragrance items across the DMV area. Whether someone is lighting a candle to unwind after a long day or gathering with family, I want our products to elevate those everyday moments. We’re still in the early chapters, but my vision is for Annai’s Halo to become a nationally recognized luxury wellness brand that invites guest to ignite luxury and leisure.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been building a business while maintaining a full-time corporate career. Entrepreneurship doesn’t come with a roadmap, so I’ve had to learn how to balance the demands of my career with growing Annai’s Halo during evenings, weekends, and every spare moment in between.
Creating high-quality products was only the first step. I quickly realized that if people didn’t know my story or understand the mission behind Annai’s Halo, they couldn’t fully appreciate what sets the brand apart. That meant stepping outside my comfort zone by showing up on social media, networking, and participating in local markets. It’s something I’m still working on, but each opportunity has helped me build stronger connections with customers and grow the brand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Annai’s Halo, I create luxury home fragrance products designed to elevate everyday living through clean, thoughtfully crafted candles, room sprays, wax melts, and other home essentials. In addition to our product line, I host private candle-making experiences where guests create their own custom scent while learning about the candle-making process and the ingredients behind a clean-burning candle.

As a DMV-based small business, it’s especially rewarding to partner with local retailers like Abro Collective at Union Station and Serenity Gift Shop at Sibley Memorial Hospital. I truly value the opportunity to connect with and give back to the community that continues to support Annai’s Halo.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t do everything alone. Early on, I often felt like I had to figure everything out myself, but I’ve realized that community is one of the most valuable resources you can have. Seeking advice, collaborating with others, and leaning on people with different experiences not only helps you grow faster but also leads to better outcomes.
