Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah McLean.
Leah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been someone who’s enjoyed seeing new places and trying new things: whether that was restaurants, makeup, products, etc. During Covid, I moved from MD to NC for law school. At the same time, I started becoming more active on social media. I enjoyed the aspect of sharing my different experiences with people from all over. And I felt like it was a good form of separation from my professional life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not been easy. When I first started making content, it wasn’t even necessarily about what I could get from it money-wise. And at first it didn’t click for me that brands would want to work with me as my following wasn’t the largest. But once I realized that some brands do still want to work with “micro-influencers,” I realized that I could take this way farther if I bet on myself. Now with that comes a level of consistency that, in the beginning, I just wasn’t showing. And although that changed over time with more discipline, there are also days where the creativity just isn’t flowing. Pair that with communication from brands varying from month to month, I wasn’t sure that it was for me altogether.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I am a content creator based in CLT. I specialize in lifestyle, beauty & travel content. I think what sets me apart from others is I’m not going to sugarcoat anything for the sake of views or what brands can give me. I’ll straight up tell you if the food at x restaurant wasn’t the best or this toner from x company dried out my skin so bad I would never use it again. And not necessarily in a mean way; it’s just that not everything is for everyone. And I think that’s what I’m most proud of: my commitment to remaining true to myself. I may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s alright. Because the people/groups/brands who see something in me, always find me at the end of the day.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My friends & family are super big on encouraging me to take things to the next level when it comes to my content. No matter how many times I want to retake a video of the food at the restaurant, or if I’m taking long with a GRWM, or if I’m not answering the phone because I’m editing, they still show support every time. Not many people would understand how I, an attorney, decided to take content more seriously but they get it . They understand that my regular job isn’t all that I am and support me in showcasing that with the world.
