Meet Elan Hilaire of Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elan Hilaire.

Hi Elan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a former athlete and facilities/construction project manager turned creative.

Frustrated by the volatile world of big corporations I decided to start freelancing around Covid. I found myself photographing an elopement wedding, than an engagement and family portraits. Next thing I knew I made my way to track meets where my business really started to grow.

My passion for both sports and a fast paced environment work well on the sidelines of events. Capturing the action of sporting events or capturing memories for my clients brings me extreme joy and is my true calling.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Being a business woman is a unique challenge. However combine that with being in a creative career. It can be easy to question yourself.
Photography is also still a male dominated space especially in the world of sports and weddings.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer. I specialize in events, wedding, pets, and sports photography. I am known for my work in track and field the most.

I am most proud of how I can juggle multiple types of photography. Photography is a form of story telling to me. I tell both the story of love as well as victory and the two themes cross over more times than people imagine.

My photography is highly emotional, moment capturing, bright, colorful, and eyecatching

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Capturing people’s memories matters to me. I was a world youth champion in the sport of track and field. Back then, photography wasn’t how it is now. You could attend a world championship and not have any images of yourself even if you were victorious. I didn’t want any athletes to feel this way. I also wanted to improve the quality of action shots so that athletes wouldn’t be embarrassed to show their game face.

As it comes to weddings, I didn’t want to be just another wedding photographer- hence me specializing in elopement’s and very private and intimate weddings. I like getting deep into the story of how the couple met. I like to curate how to capture them best by building relationships with them. My background in fast paced corporate America taught me how to build these relationships even in a short time like elopement photography. It means everything to me
