Today we’d like to introduce you to Pegah Shahghasemi and Lisa Ramber.
Hi Pegah/Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We met as resident artists at Washington’s District Clay in 2014. We found that we worked really well together, enjoyed each other’s company and had similar points of view about creating pottery. When the studio on the Arts Walk became available in 2015 we decided to take a leap and open Kuzeh Pottery. Since then, we’ve been making functional pottery that combines our love of creating images, influenced by our different backgrounds, and color.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our journey has been challenging at times. During covid, we had to shutdown the teaching side of the business. The upside of those years is that it gave us more time and space to create our own work. Since then, we pivoted to holding handbuilding workshops two times per month. Another challenge was getting the word out about our work. It has been a slow build but now we have customers returning many times to find gifts for their family and friends.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in hand built and wheel thrown functional pottery that is microwave, dishwasher and food safe. Everything we make you can use in your home. We also create tableware that is used in restaurants. We are known for our decorative surfaces and colorful glazes. We are most proud when we see our ceramics used in our customers homes and restaurant dishes being served on our pottery.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To keep moving forward and pivoting when necessary.
