Hi Zion, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a kid with a lively expression for the arts, it helped me realize my individuality at a very young age. I knew I was different and that being different wasn’t a bad thing at all. Born in Baltimore MD, growing up in Owings Mills MD i had a lot of opportunities waiting for me, that I didn’t even know were there. With my mother being from Newark, New Jersey and my dad being from St.Ann, Jamaica. I found myself being in tune with my culture and who I was even more. I absorbed and learned about so many different walks of life, It helped me appreciate the root of art, and it has gotten me where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to being who I am today wasn’t smooth or easy at all. Having love for all art and working in many parts of it, I struggled finding out what I really wanted to do. I felt like there was only room for 1 thing to do. That mentally didn’t last long at all. I came to terms with many different personal life experiences and realized that I can in fact do all that i wanted and I am doing just that !
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With the abilities of writing , designing, singing, rapping, and creating in visual arts. I am now a Content Creator/Hairstylist based in Owings Mills, Maryland. I’ve always wanted to do hair as a kid watching many people in my family do it. It helped me grow my love for it . I started in 2018 and haven’t stopped since. I moved to New Jersey in 2021 at the age of 20 and landed a spot in a Salon which I am most proud of. I now specialize in natural hair and extensions, My niche for content creation started in 2023 and it’s evolved my brand tremendously and still is. From broadcasting my art to the world and being my true authentic self, I added my videography and visuals arts skills all together and created my brand.
I am known for my free spirited energy and the love I have for hair, it sets me apart ! It’s truly only 1 Zion Shakur.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking in my world is something that is very important to me. It’s almost like a tattoo, it’ll be stuck with me forever, simply because it’s gotten me so far in life. I feel as a creative risk taking is essential and it should honestly be studied. Think about your personal influences in life or even yourself. There wouldn’t be a lot going on out here without it.
