Exploring Life & Business with Erika Dorsey of Ms. FinancialE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Dorsey.

Hi Erika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into financial literacy started from both personal experience and professional exposure. Growing up, financial literacy was not something that was intentionally taught in my home. I watched my parents who were well-educated and had decent jobs still struggle financially, not because they lacked intelligence or work ethic, but because they were never given the tools or knowledge to manage money successfully.

Seeing that made me realize how important financial education really is. You can have a good job, earn money, and still feel stuck if you do not understand budgeting, credit, taxes, saving, and how to make your money work for you.

Professionally, I have worked in finance for over 25 years, and throughout my career, I continued to see the same pattern. Many people were making major financial decisions without fully understanding how money, credit, budgeting, taxes, and financial planning all connect. I realized that people were not struggling because they did not care — many were struggling because no one had taken the time to teach them in a way that felt relatable, practical, and judgment-free.

That passion eventually led me to create Ms. FinancialE, LLC, where my mission is to Enlighten, Empower, and Educate. What started with helping individuals with taxes, bookkeeping, and financial questions grew into something bigger. I began offering workshops, speaking to students, creating content, and having real conversations about money that help people feel more confident and informed.

Today, I use my personal journey, professional background, and passion for education to bridge the gap between financial information and everyday life. Whether I’m working with clients, speaking to students, or sharing information online, my goal is always the same — to help people make better money decisions, build confidence, and understand that financial growth is possible no matter where you start.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest struggles was finding my niche. When I started my business nine years ago, I had my hands in a lot of different areas because I wanted to help in every way I could. Over time, I realized that trying to do everything made it harder to focus on the work that truly aligned with my purpose.

Eventually, I found my lane through financial literacy workshops. Those opportunities allowed me to connect with the community in a more authentic and human way. I was not just providing a service — I was creating space for real conversations, relatable education, and practical tools that people could actually use in their everyday lives.

Finding that focus helped me grow both personally and professionally. It reminded me that sometimes the road becomes smoother once you stop trying to do everything and start leaning into the work you are truly called to do.

We’ve been impressed with Ms. FinancialE , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ms. FinancialE is a financial education and service-based brand built on the mission to Enlighten, Empower, and Educate. At the heart of my business is the belief that financial literacy should feel relatable, accessible, and judgment-free.

Through Ms. FinancialE, I provide tax preparation, bookkeeping support, financial education, and community-based workshops. While the business started with individual financial services, it has grown into a platform that allows me to teach, connect, and help people feel more confident about their money decisions.

I specialize in making financial topics easier to understand. Whether I am talking about budgeting, credit, taxes, saving, banking, or money habits, my goal is to break the information down in a way that feels practical and real. I want people to walk away feeling like, “I can do this,” instead of feeling overwhelmed or embarrassed about what they do not know.

What sets Ms. FinancialE apart is the human connection behind the brand. I do not approach financial literacy from a place of judgment. I approach it from lived experience, professional knowledge, and a genuine desire to help people grow. I understand that many people were never taught how to manage money successfully, so my work is rooted in education, encouragement, and empowerment.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that Ms. FinancialE has become more than just a business name. It has become a trusted space for real conversations about money. I am proud of the workshops, the community connections, the client relationships, and the opportunity to help people shift their mindset around finances.

I want readers to know that Ms. FinancialE is here to meet people where they are. Whether someone is trying to understand their taxes, clean up their budget, build better money habits, or simply gain confidence, my goal is to provide support that is clear, compassionate, and useful. Financial literacy is not just about numbers — it is about freedom, confidence, and creating better options for yourself and your family.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most important to my success is authenticity. I believe people connect with realness before they connect with information. Financial literacy can feel intimidating, and many people carry shame, fear, or frustration around money. Because of that, I try to create a space where people feel seen, not judged.

My success has come from being able to combine professional knowledge with real-life understanding. I do not just teach from a textbook or speak in complicated financial terms. I share information in a way that feels relatable, practical, and human. I want people to know that it is okay to start where they are, ask questions, and learn without feeling embarrassed.

I also believe consistency and service have played a major role in my growth. Ms. FinancialE was built from a genuine desire to help people make better financial decisions, and staying connected to that purpose has helped me keep going, even when the road was not always clear.

At the core of it, I believe my ability to lead with authenticity, compassion, and education is what allows people to trust the brand and receive the information in a meaningful way.
