Hi Reed, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a Wire Street Artist who came up in Baltimore MD,
my study was in Environmental Design so naturally I was drawn to doing street art and public works.
As a Skateboarder I was always interested in how we can interact with the built environment in different ways.
Street Art is the intersection of public and private works and what those truly mean to a space ruled by subjective perspective. and as a wire artist I act to create space without taking up space.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always found my work in a way of being “creative littering”
my work is in a grey area of legality so the challenge has always been riding the line between what is acceptable work and what is not acceptable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I Install wire sculptures on traffic lights all around the USA and a few in the UK.
I always found the juxtaposition of legal and illegal street art being on the same rules of what constitutes a weed as oppose to a flower, In that, in these modern times If you have enough money, you can litter what is considered visual real-estate with as many mundane ads. as appose to feely taking over the space yourself the difference between a weed and a flower is a plant that grew outside of the boundaries of a planter box. Street Art serves to be a reminder of these delicate balances.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Street Art is not for everyone, but it IS for everyone.
