Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Diggs.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the Director of Gifting Girls to Grow, Inc., a 501 c 3 non-profit mentoring organization for girls ages 7-13. The organization was started in 2021. Being raised in a loving and supportive home taught me encouragement and guidance. So, I created this business to give young girls that same feeling. A safe space to feel loved, supported, honest, valued and gifted as they grow into young women. Today, the business offers team building activities, birthday celebrations, holiday celebrations, opportunities for mentorship, encouragement, sisterhood, and personal growth. Watching the girls build confidence, learn new life skills, and develop positive relationships has been one of the most rewarding results of this journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Gifting Girls to Grow has not always been a smooth road because each girl comes with a different background story and unique experiences. However, I am patient and passionate about the work I do, and that makes the struggles a little easier to navigate.
I have experienced challenges with some parents who did not initially understand the vision and mission of the organization but now they are opened to it and as such have embraced our purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Administrative Specialist with the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, serving Maryland for over 25 years. I assist customers in registering their businesses, guiding them through procedures and ensuring accurate filings. I enjoy helping people and take pride in demonstrating that genuine, dedicated public servants still exist. My professionalism, patience, and integrity sets me apart from others.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In the beginning, I was afraid to take risks because I feared making mistakes. However, as I grew older, I realized that so much of life involves stepping out in faith and being willing to take chances. I now believe that taking risks is part of God’s plan for my life. One of the greatest risks I took was starting Gifting Girls to Grow, Inc. It pushed me beyond my comfort zone and allowed me to fulfill my purpose of making a difference in the lives of young girls. It was a risk worth taking, and I am truly grateful that I did.
