Rising Stars: Meet Binyamin Guttman of Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Binyamin Guttman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been singing since I was a kid. My father and grandfather, though not professionally trained, both led services in the Synagogue for the High Holidays, so I guess that’s where I got the bug. I recall standing at the front with my dad at age 6, on a little stool, mimicking everything!

I was a soloist in a boys’ choir locally and at an overnight camp in NY.

Once I made it to high school, I became the lead singer in the band in 11th grade and haven’t looked back since!

I began doing gigs shortly after. Whether Bar Mitzvahs, weddings, concerts, or leading services for the High Holidays, my voice has taken me all over North America!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. It’s a very competitive business, and keeping your voice always ready to go isn’t easy. I’ve had to reinvent myself several times. Recording has always been hard for me, as you can sit and nitpick at every nuance of your voice. Fortunately, I’ve finally released a few singles thanks to others pushing me to release my music.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a singer, I specialize in performing at weddings and other milestone events. I hope I’m known for my soulful and heartfelt melodies, adding to the backdrop of the happiest days of people’s lives.

I am proud that I have been able to see the world doing what I love!

My non-diva approach, despite it being an occupational hazard.

How do you define success?
Financial wherewithal to be able to give back.
