Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyse Welles.
Elyse, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began studying the priestess arts intentionally in my journey to becoming a high priestess of the eclectic Faery Tradition of witchcraft in the Baltimore area. Over the past six years it has deepened into an integration of my lifelong connection to land spirits and what I’ve come to call the prehistoric earth temple arts of my homeland, Greece. I bring that magic back to the diaspora and beyond, for anyone with a call to the earth’s lessons as they are taught through the lens of Greece’s priestess culture.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle has been getting the word out to those in Greece or connected to the Hellenic polytheism community that Greece’s history has a deeper connection to earth than the ancient, classical era of Greece many in the priestess community talk about. I am doing something no one else has done, and this is the challenge of this work. But it is also the gift, as it is inspiring others to step forward with confidence on this path.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an author and teacher of the earth temple arts. I am the only native Greek-Egyptian teaching these arts and leading pilgrimages here in Greece. I am also leading a festival in Havre de Grace, MD for our local community, Samhainfest, sharing spiritual approaches for honoring the dead for the Halloween season. My book, “Sacred Wild: An Invitation to Connect to Spirits of the Land” is available bestseller teaching spiritual work.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My willingness to speak openly on spiritual experiences, and to stay dedicated to this path even in the face of adversity. In short: authenticity, pursuing the priestess path for my own drive and then allowing the containers, festivals, and retreats I guide become organic expressions of the work the divine is calling me to do.
