Meet Victor Oriza of Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Oriza.

Hi Victor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Mexico City, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by magic. As a kid, I’ve always been captivated by the grand illusions of David Copperfield, but back then, figuring out how to learn magic was a massive challenge. The internet wasn’t what it is today, and my parents had no idea how I could learn.

Everything changed on December 3, 2016. I crossed paths with a street magician and told him how badly I wanted to learn. He ended up selling me a DVD and a deck of cards—and that was the exact day my life shifted. Magic quickly became an obsession. I spent years devouring books, studying advanced psychological concepts, investing in courses, and joining magic clubs. For a long time, it was my passion project and a serious side gig while I built a stable career as a systems and network engineer.

Then, corporate adversity hit, and I was laid off from my engineering position. It brought to mind that classic line from Rocky: ‘It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’

Instead of viewing the layoff as a setback, I saw it as the ultimate opportunity to bet on myself. I took that leap and went full-time into building my business. Today, I bring the precision and attention to detail of my engineering background into my mentalism and magic, delivering a highly polished, sophisticated, and modern experience. My goal isn’t just to trick people; it’s to deeply connect with my audiences and leave them with a profound sense of wonder they’ve never experienced before.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Moving from a steady paycheck into the unpredictable world of running an entertainment business was a massive shock. Suddenly, I wasn’t just the performer; I was the marketing department, the sales team, and the accountant.
The Washington-Baltimore area has an incredibly talented community of performers, so the competition is real. Early on, you have to develop a thick skin. Dealing with rejection is part of the job. A client might say no to you for a hundred different reasons—budget, timing, or just a different vision. I had to learn not to take it personally. Instead, I took those rejections as an invitation to keep sharpening my marketing, refining my approach, and getting crystal clear on my value proposition. The struggle wasn’t just about finding audiences; it was about educating clients on what a sophisticated, modern mind-reading experience looks like, and proving that what I bring to the table is entirely unique.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional magician and mentalist specializing in sophisticated, modern illusion and mind-reading designed strictly for adult audiences. I don’t do traditional children’s entertainment; my work is clean, elegant, and interactive. I am known for creating an atmosphere where the impossible feels personal.

What sets me apart is my unique backgrounds. On one hand, coming from a career as a systems and network engineer allows me to design my performances with absolute precision, logic, and attention to detail. On the other hand, my roots in Mexico City and being completely bilingual give me a deep cultural empathy. Magic is a universal language, but being able to navigate and connect across different cultures allows me to bring people together in a way few others can. It adds a layer of natural charisma and adaptability to my work, whether I’m performing a corporate set or connecting with a diverse crowd at an upscale gala.

What I am most proud of is the courage it took to bet on myself, leave the corporate world, and turn a lifelong passion into a thriving business. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a room full of brilliant adults completely lose themselves in a moment of pure wonder. My goal is never just to trick the mind; it’s to use my unique story and background to build real, lasting connections with my audience.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People see me on stage looking sharp and doing mind-reading, so they might be surprised by how low-key I am offstage. I’m a huge soccer fan, I love playing video games, and more than anything, I’m a family man. My favorite way to recharge is just hanging out with my wife and our two kids. Family is everything to me, and that downtime is what gives me the energy to go out and perform at my best.
