Today we’d like to introduce you to Taja McDuffie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am cosmetologist with over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry. I received my training at Carver Vocational-Technical High School, a trade-focused institution so i had the privilege of being licensed right after high school.
As a highly versatile hairstylist, I offer a wide range of services, including weaves, stitch braids, knotless braids, and wig installations. While I am skilled in multiple techniques and styles, my true passion and specialty lie in natural hair care. I take pride in promoting healthy hair and providing treatments that enhance the strength, growth, and overall beauty of natural hair.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Effectively representing and promoting myself has been a challenge, particularly in the areas of marketing and self-branding. However, I recognize the importance of building a strong professional presence and continue to work on developing strategies to confidently communicate my skills, services, and value to clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a highly versatile hairstylist, I offer a wide range of services, including weaves, stitch braids, knotless braids, and wig installations. While I am skilled in multiple techniques and styles, my true passion and specialty lie in natural hair care. I take pride in promoting healthy hair and providing treatments that enhance the strength, growth, and overall beauty of natural hair. I am most proud of the growth I have achieved throughout my journey in the beauty industry. Currently, I share a suite in the downtown Canton area with my bestie in business, Unique, a talented makeup artist. Together, we provide a full range of hair and makeup services, creating a convenient, all-in-one experience for our clients.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I see the beauty industry continuing to evolve with a clear and intentional shift toward healthy hair care, customization, and elevated client experiences. The focus is no longer just on style it’s on maintaining and improving the overall health of the hair, especially within the natural hair community, where education and informed care are becoming the standard. Digital presence is no longer optional it’s essential. Stylists who position themselves strategically online will continue to dominate, using social media not just to showcase their work, but to educate, attract, and retain a loyal clientele. Most importantly, the industry is moving toward a more luxury, full-service salon, Clients expect professionalism, convenience, and a high-end experience. One-stop-shop environments that offers both hair and makeup services are becoming the new standard, and I am already aligned with that direction. I don’t just see where the industry is going, I’m actively growing within it.
