Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Johnson.
Hi Tiara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the Owner of Crowned Glamour Beauty, LLC, a beauty business that I officially launched in 2021. The inspiration behind the name is deeply personal. My name is Tiara, which is a type of crown, and I have always loved all things glam and beauty. Combining those passions led me to create the name Crowned Glamour Beauty—a brand that represents confidence, elegance, and helping women feel beautiful inside and out.
My journey into entrepreneurship began with a passion for beauty and a desire to create an experience where clients could feel empowered and pampered. Like many small business owners, I started with a vision, determination, and a willingness to learn as I grew. Over the years, I have continued to refine my skills, expand my knowledge, and build meaningful relationships with my clients.
Beyond being a beauty business owner, I have experienced many ups and downs that have shaped me into the woman and entrepreneur I am today. Those experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of continuing to invest in myself. Today, Crowned Glamour Beauty is more than a beauty brand—it’s a reflection of my commitment to helping others look and feel their best while embracing their own unique crown.
As I continue to grow both personally and professionally, my goal is to expand my impact, inspire other women entrepreneurs, and remind every client who sits in my chair that they deserve to feel confident, beautiful, and crowned.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Building Crowned Glamour Beauty has required a tremendous amount of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges with overhead costs, marketing expenses, and the constant need to invest back into my business while trying to grow it.
One of the most difficult parts was dealing with people who would reach out not because they wanted to book an appointment, but because they wanted to question my abilities or judge whether I was capable of doing the work. Unfortunately, I also learned that not everyone who knows you personally will support your business. In fact, some of the strongest support I’ve received has come from people who were once strangers, while only a handful of people from my personal circle truly showed up for me.
I even experienced moments where people seemed more focused on tearing me down than building me up. At one point, someone made a Facebook post implying that lash artists should be fully licensed or risk having the state called on them. Situations like that could have discouraged me, but instead they motivated me to continue learning, growing, and proving to myself that I belonged in this industry.
Those challenges taught me resilience. They showed me that entrepreneurship isn’t just about having a great service, it’s about having the courage to keep going when people doubt you, criticize you, or fail to support your vision. Looking back, every obstacle helped shape me into the business owner I am today, and I wouldn’t trade the lessons for anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Crowned Glamour Beauty, I specialize in enhancing natural beauty rather than masking it. I am best known for my natural-looking lash extensions that complement my clients’ existing features and help them feel confident while still looking like themselves. My goal is to create a look that is elegant, effortless, and customized to each individual client.
In addition to lash services, I also provide professional makeup application and eyebrow tinting services. Whether a client is preparing for a special occasion or simply wants to elevate their everyday look, I focus on delivering results that enhance their natural features and leave them feeling beautiful and empowered.
What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone look in the mirror and feel more confident than when they arrived. I take pride in creating a welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable, valued, and cared for.
What sets me apart is my personalized approach and genuine passion for helping women feel their best. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all beauty standard. Every service is tailored to the client’s unique features, lifestyle, and beauty goals. My focus is not just on providing a service but on creating an experience that leaves every client feeling crowned, glamorous, and confident.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely. As an entrepreneur, student, mother, and professional, I believe in continuously investing in my personal growth and mindset. One of my favorite resources is Black Girl Burnout on Substack, which provides insightful content about rest, healing, boundaries, and navigating life as a Black woman. It has been a valuable reminder that success doesn’t have to come at the expense of my well-being.
My favorite podcast is The Queens Table Show, which offers authentic conversations that inspire, encourage, and empower women to grow personally and professionally.
I am also an avid reader and have found several books particularly impactful throughout my journey. The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama has inspired me to lead with resilience and grace. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie taught me valuable lessons about communication and relationship-building. Get Out of Your Own Way by Mark Goulston challenged me to overcome self-imposed limitations, while The Dopamine Reset by Leo Black provided practical insights on focus and productivity. I also enjoyed Be the Prize by Kim Powell, which reinforced the importance of self-worth, confidence, and knowing your value.
These resources have helped shape the way I approach business, personal development, and life. They continue to remind me that growth is an ongoing journey and that success begins with investing in yourself.
