Check Out Marz Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marz Jones.

Hi Marz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My photography career started in high school. I always had a passion for taking pictures and capturing moments. When I was younger I’d shoot on an old Canon Rebel from the earlier 2000’s. When I went off to college I took a bit of a break from photography, but after graduation I picked up my first mirrorless camera. From there things really started to take off. I participated in group photowalks, shot family events, and everyday moments. Fast forward a few years, after getting a ton of experience under my belt and now I’m shooting festivals, weddings, engagements, brand campaigns, corporate shoots, and so much more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I hasn’t always been a smooth road in this career. Some of the struggles come from the financial impacts of photography. Once you get into this hobby/career path you spend a lottttt of money, haha. Another bump in the road was when I had some of my gear stolen from my car earlier in my career. I feel like every photographer has a horror story similar to that and I definitely learned my lesson.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I don’t think I specialize in any particular form of photography. Like I mentioned before, my work is very broad. I’ve shot weddings, engagements, festivals, concerts, art shows, brand campaigns, corporate photoshoots, fashion, portraits, proms, graduations, street photography… a little bit of everything!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Take your time and learn the craft. Don’t rush to buy all the latest gear. Networking is also very big. Spend time with likeminded passionate individuals.

Pricing:

  • I typically charge $300/hr for my sessions, but every project is different. So I love to get on a conference call to talk through the scope of work.
