Today we’d like to introduce you to Briell McCoy.
Briell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started working with young people at the age of 14. I worked for a summer camp through Youth works in Baltimore City. I was a young person working with young people at the time, I never imagined making an impact in my community. From working with the youth at 14 to vearing off the course in life I landed at my old elementary school volunteering in classrooms to eventually having my own classroom. I worked for Baltimore City Public Schools for 11 years. Working in many positions; Substitute, Reading Specialist, Technology Teacher as well as Outreach Coordinator for The Billie Holiday Judy Center. While working for BCPSS I always found myself gravitating to the “littles” the pre-k and k population. I always found their way of learning so fun and enlightening. I was never able to spend as much time with the “littles” as I would have liked and I always wondered what it would be like to provide a space for young children to feel loved, love learning and be able to play. In 2021 I was inspired to open a Family Childcare program. I had many setbacks that caused me to wonder if this dream would ever come true. I participated in the Growing Opportunities for Family Childcare (GOFCC) this program was able to help me from start to finish by providing resources, support and education that helped me to receive my Family Childcare license May 29,2025. I opened Little Bees in BLOOM August 2025 and have been nurturing young minds ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! The road has not been easy. Being an entrepreneur and a Family Childcare Provider has had its rough spots. Starting a business from scratch, dealing with permits, licensing, state agencies, planning, implementing, visits, observations and thats before the doors even open for business. Identifying families that need your services and praying that you secure enough families for this leap of faith to pay off. I could go on and on but the road has been very winding and bumpy.
We’ve been impressed with Little Bees in BLOOM Family Chidcare, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Little Bees in BLOOM is a Family Childcare Program in Edmondson Village. Our motto is “Learning grows where play is planted” I am able to enroll children ages 6weeks to 12 years old. We are a play based Childcare program that focuses on allow children to learn through play. I am the Family Childcare Provider at Little Bees in BLOOM. There are many amazing childcare providers in my community and around Maryland but what sets me apart is my ability to build relationships. I love meeting new people, identifying their needs and fulfilling the needs to the best of my ability. Families trust me with their most precious gifts and I take that as a great honor. Families have always trusted me with their children and I do not take that for granted. I am proud of my ability to educate children from birth to 12 in my program by using something that many people do not see as important “Play” play is the foundation of learning for all people. Play is unrestricted, free and liberating. Once you watch young children play and identify items such as colors and numbers without being forced you will see how education is vast and multifaceted. I want the readers to know that Little Bees in BLOOM is a play based Family Childcare program that is open to all . We are a loving and caring program that is Maryland Excel Level 2. Our families love us and been referring other families since August 2025. We offer childcare services from 6am to 6pm, play is our curriculum. Our families only need to bring their child and a change of clothing. We provide all food, snacks, diapers and wipes.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that many people dont know about me is that I dont like to be called resilient. I believe that everything that I go through does make me stronger however, the bounce back changes the person I am each time and causes me to change my prospective and my trajectory. Many people believe that resilience is what makes business and entrepreneurship but its the person and their beliefs that make them who they are and cause the brand to be built.
