Today we’d like to introduce you to Hazaiah Gold.
Hi Hazaiah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Washington, D.C., raised throughout the entire DMV, yet claim Maryland(PG). As a son of a guitarist, I was immersed in the realm of music very young. Growing up around studios with my father and watching him interact with other musicians inspired me to fully embrace my voice. I would write raps in my journal as a teen and sing around the house whenever I get the notion.
Began recording professionally in 2009. Ultimately, I’m a storyteller. It has brought me to many stages, and I’ve got to meet some gifted amazing people along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Every journey comes with its fair share of challenges. Though I’ve had several great moments as an indie artist, my biggest struggles came from needing validation. HipHop is competitive even when you don’t want it to be. Forgetting that I speak for the lost and found for looks garnering praise outside of my peers exposed part of my heart I never anticipated. I have a line in an unreleased song that goes “I truthfully needed affirmation and love from my Father, but I accepted an audience and stage as my alter.” I repented.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an emcee and singer. I specialize in introspection, storytelling, collaborations, and genre fluidity.
Stylistically, I draw inspiration from classic soul, contemporary hip-hop traditions, and of course GoGo. Aligning with the lineage of artists before me who prioritize musicality and message equally.
In October of 2013, I formed a 5-piece band called The I.N.N.(Introvert.Native.Nest) serving as the lead vocalist. Performing records such as “Too Old” or “Clock In” that became fan-favorites over time.
Also, rededicating my life back to Christ as of late 2018, my subject matter and sound definitely has gospel undertones.
I’m most proud of my sound and ability to make people of at least 3 generations feel familiar at my shows and I think that’s what sets me apart from other contemporary artists.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Of course, my Father(Michael Ray Lane Sr.), for his many contributions towards my development as a musician.
My Wife(Amber Gold) til this day is my biggest fan and supporter. For 13 years now, she’s always been my muse and listened to drafts and compositions before they were finalized.
My former band mates (Jerm, Brook, Doob, and TeJay) for cultivating a sound with me. Homies that bought a ticket and highlighted my songs over the years when I was too afraid to push them outside of my local limits.
Most importantly, my Lord and Savior, Jesus The Christ whose able to keep me from falling. All Praises Due!
