Today we’d like to introduce you to Shavonne Bowman.
Hi Shavonne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is really about transformation, and every part of it is rooted in my faith and God’s plan for my life.
I stand firmly on Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord…” because when I look back over my life, I can clearly see that nothing I went through was by accident. Every lesson, every setback, every shift was positioning me for purpose.
Growing up, wellness wasn’t something I valued. I was the child asking for burgers, fries, and soda, not realizing how those habits would follow me. My family was full of love, but not necessarily guidance when it came to health or long-term living. That didn’t really change until life forced me to pay attention.
My first wake-up came in college, then again at 19 when I got pregnant and my body literally rejected the lifestyle I was used to. But the moment that truly changed me was watching my grandmother lose both of her feet due to poor health. That was no longer something I could ignore. That was a reality check.
Still, life kept stretching me. I had eight children, and over time my body reflected that journey. I went from 125 pounds to over 200 pounds, and I remember looking at myself and saying, “Something has to change.” Not just for me, but for the people depending on me.
What started as me trying to get my family moving turned into something much bigger. I created a space for us to work out, be accountable, and grow together. I would reward them by cooking healthy meals, and what we built in that space changed lives. We lost over 200 pounds collectively. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just a moment, it was a calling. That’s how 4thepeople2bfit was born.
But God didn’t stop there.
My journey deepened when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She fought, she beat it, and then it returned as stage four metastatic breast cancer. That season forced me to go deeper into understanding wellness, not just food and fitness, but what we put on our bodies, what we clean with, and how we truly care for ourselves from the inside out. That’s when I aligned with a wellness company to help families take full control of their health.
At the same time, my financial story was unfolding.
I watched my grandmother work relentlessly with very little, and later in life, I saw her struggle with Alzheimer’s and mishandle her finances without even realizing it. She had multiple policies but didn’t fully understand what she had. That moment stayed with me.
Then my husband and I lost about $90,000 in our 401k. That was another wake-up call. I remember thinking, “If this happens when we’re older, we could end up in the same position as the generations before us.” That thought didn’t sit well with me.
That’s when I made a decision. I wasn’t going to stay uninformed.
I stepped into financial literacy with intention. I studied, I failed my licensing exam twice, and on the third time, I leaned fully into my faith and said, “God, if this is part of your plan for me, open this door.” And He did.
Since then, I’ve been on a mission to wake people up.
Through SB Financial Literacy, I help families understand how to protect their income, build wealth, and create real financial security, not just for today, but for generations. I’ve worked in homes, schools, unemployment offices, and created spaces like “Be the Bank” so people can learn in environments that feel safe and real.
Today, my work sits at the intersection of wellness, wealth, and faith.
Because I’ve lived through the consequences of not knowing in both areas, I don’t just teach this, I carry it. I understand what’s at stake.
What I want people to know is this, your starting point does not determine your outcome. With God at the center, the right information, and the willingness to move, you can change everything, your health, your finances, and your family’s future.
And that’s exactly what I’m here to do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve faced challenges in almost every area of life, family, business, and personal growth.
From a young age, I carried a lot of responsibility. Being the only child to my father meant stepping in to help him navigate things he didn’t fully understand. Over time, I also became the person my family leaned on in difficult moments, which came with its own emotional weight.
I’ve experienced strained family relationships, seasons of hurt, and the demands of being a caregiver. On the business side, I’ve taken financial losses, including draining my 401k and navigating a failed trucking venture. I’ve opened my home to foster 26 children and adopted four, which came with both purpose and pain. I’ve also had to work through difficult moments with my own children, while still growing as a mother and leader.
And even now, there are challenges I carry, like distance from my grandson.
But through it all, what has kept me grounded is my relationship with God. I stand on Jeremiah 29:11 and truly believe that every challenge has been part of His plan to shape me, not break me.
Life will always come with obstacles, but I’ve learned to focus on what gives me peace, keeps me growing, and allows me to move forward with purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
4thepeople2bfit is more than a fitness brand, it’s a lifestyle and a movement rooted in real life, real people, and real transformation.
What started as me simply trying to motivate my family turned into something much bigger. I was watching the people I loved struggle with high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, and overall unhealthy lifestyles, and I knew we needed something different. So I created a space where we could come together, work out, hold each other accountable, and most importantly, feel supported. What made it special is that it wasn’t about perfection, it was about progress. And through that, we lost over 200 pounds collectively.
That’s when I realized this wasn’t just for my family, it was for the community.
What I do through 4thepeople2bfit is help people understand that being “fit” goes beyond the physical. Yes, we focus on movement, accountability, and building confidence, but we also talk about mental strength, emotional balance, and how your health connects to every area of your life, including your finances. Because if your body isn’t right, it’s hard to show up fully anywhere else.
I also created 2BFit fitness apparel as an extension of the brand. It represents confidence, commitment, and showing up for yourself daily, no matter where you are in your journey.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach this, I live it. I’m a mother of eight, a grandmother, and someone who has had to fight for my own health while carrying a lot of responsibility. So I understand what it feels like to be busy, overwhelmed, and still needing to take care of yourself.
What I’m most proud of is the impact. Seeing people who once struggled to get started now showing up consistently, feeling better, thinking clearer, and gaining confidence in themselves, that means everything to me.
I want readers to know that this isn’t about having it all together. It’s about making a decision to start where you are, with what you have, and building from there. My goal is to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to take control of their health and their life.
Because when you get your body right, your mind right, and your habits right, everything else starts to shift.
And that’s what 4thepeople2bfit is all about.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I enjoy most about Baltimore & Clinton is the sense of community and access. There are so many parks, venues, and spaces where people can come together, whether it’s for fitness, networking, or just enjoying life. I’ve found strong communities here, especially around wellness and active living, and that has meant a lot to me. And I can’t leave out the seafood, Baltimore definitely knows how to do that well.
On the flip side, I do think there’s room for growth when it comes to variety, especially with restaurants. I would love to see more quality breakfast spots and more soul food options. I also think there’s an opportunity to expand diversity in business ownership within local communities. Seeing more people from different backgrounds represented and thriving in business would make an even greater impact.
Overall, it’s a city with a lot of potential, strong roots, and space to grow.
