Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Nguyen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I (Johnny Nguyen) founded MidnighTreats in Vienna, VA after graduating from JMU back in 2018. Late night cookies were popular in college but hadn’t yet made it up to Northern VA so I wanted to bring them into the area. This was before the big cookie craze happened. Now we’re at 4 locations with 2 more coming this year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, every day is a grind. As a solo founder with very little money and no investments, I had to learn all aspects of business, baking, customer support, accounting, website design, etc. As a business owner, you’re dealing with problems every single day and are often the last line of defense, meaning you have no option but to figure out solutions and continue forward.

Johnny Nguyen founded MidnighTreats in Vienna, VA after graduating from JMU, then Diana Nguyen fell in love with the mission (and the cookies!) and left a career in early childhood education to join the team. Diana and Johnny both share a love for animals and our environment, which is what fueled years of testing and developing recipes that don’t require any animal ingredients and are indistinguishably plant-based. What started in their home kitchen is now a multi-location business fighting for a social cause that affects every one of us and our future generations. We believe a successful business can be built alongside creating an environmentally friendly and peaceful world!
What makes you happy?
Spending time with my wife, baby, and dog. Building the business. Days that we have high sales.
