Meet Susan Ways of New Ways Barre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Ways.

Hi Susan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My vision to open my own barre studio was born during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. After the passing of my husband, I searched for purpose and a path forward. I found barre and practiced regularly, finding it to be more than just a workout — it became a place of healing, strength, and connection.

“It gave me a space where I could take care of my body while also being surrounded by a supportive community,” Ways said. “It was incredibly meaningful during a time when I needed it most.”

Last summer, I set out to create a similar, nurturing place for others. I wanted her studio to be more than a fitness space, but a place where people can come together, move their bodies, and find comfort as they go through whatever life may bring their way.

“My hope is that when people walk through the doors, they feel like they’ve entered a space that nourishes their mind, body, and soul,” she said. “Whether someone is navigating the everyday stresses of life or something much more significant.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, everything is a mixed bag. Some things came together easily while others were more challenging. It took me some time to find the right teachers who were invested in my vision and willing to hang in there with me while we built that. Also finding the right clients was tougher than I imagined, but it is coming together. I have learned so much along the way and the struggles have presented me with opportunities to pivot and grow in ways that I didn’t think possible. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about New Ways Barre?
New Ways Barre is a boutique barre fitness studio geared toward women of all ages who prioritize fitness, community, wellbeing and connection and are willing to invest in that. Our small studio offers certified instructors who provide hands on adjustments for the best and safest workout. We take form and safety seriously.
Because we are small, clients get focused individualized attention. We notice when you are there and we notice when you are not.
The studio is bright and beautiful with state of the art equipment. It is very PINK.
I am most proud of the community we are building. It is the place I dreamed of – somewhere people can come to get away from whatever is going on in their day, connect with other likeminded people and get an amazing workout.
Barre is a great workout and our studio takes that to the next level.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I grew up in a community where kids played outside. There wasn’t a plan, you just went out your front door and found someone to play with. We were creative and curious. My favorite memories were just being free, connecting with friends and exploring organic friendships.
