Inspiring Conversations with Siem Abebe of Mary’s Stay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siem Abebe.

Hi Siem, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My background is in real estate development, where I spent years acquiring and transforming properties in DC. As I worked on more projects, I realized there was an opportunity to activate these spaces in a different way not just as places to live, but as places people could experience. That’s how Mary’s Stay came about. We built it as a short-term rental brand focused on design, comfort, and consistency, giving guests a boutique-hotel feel within residential spaces.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ot hasn’t been smooth, but that’s part of the journey. Moving from real estate into hospitality brought a new layer of complexity such as guests, service, reviews, and day-to-day operations. There were moments where things didn’t go as planned, whether it was managing turnovers or pricing correctly. But each obstacle helped shape the systems we have today. It taught me that success in this space isn’t just about owning property. It’s about consistently delivering a great experience.

We’ve been impressed with Mary’s Stay, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mary’s Stay is where real estate meets hospitality. We create curated stays that feel elevated but comfortable, with a focus on design, location, and consistency. What makes us different is that we treat every unit as part of a brand—not just a one-off rental.
I’m most proud of building something that feels intentional. When guests book with us, they know what to expect: a clean, well-designed space, a smooth experience, and a level of quality that’s consistent across the board.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We’re just getting started. The goal is to keep improving, growing the portfolio, and building a brand that people recognize and trust.
