Today we’d like to introduce you to Chauntia Postell.
Hi Chauntia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I often say this work found me before I fully had the language for it. I remember being in middle school and having a very honest conversation with my mom about some of the traumatic experiences from her childhood that were still affecting her in the present. I asked her what she felt she needed during that time that the adults around her had missed. Her answer was simple, but it changed me: she needed someone to be there, someone to support her, someone to show up consistently, someone to advocate for her, and someone to protect her. Those words stayed with me. They shaped the way I began to see people, pain, and possibility. I started looking at people through the lens of “what happened to you?” instead of “what’s wrong with you?” and that perspective became the heartbeat of my life’s work.
As I grew, so did that calling. I’m a proud Prince George’s County native, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and someone who has spent more than a decade walking alongside children, adolescents, and families in schools, community settings, and private practice. No matter where I served, I kept seeing the same thing: unhealed trauma was showing up everywhere, and too many children and families were being handed reactive solutions instead of real, meaningful support. I saw how often people were told what not to do without being given the tools, safe spaces, and guidance to do something different. That reality stayed with me and pushed me to think bigger about what healing, empowerment, and support could truly look like.
That vision eventually became Prioritize Peace Therapeutic Services. I wanted to create something that felt different — a space that was healing-centered, proactive, and rooted in the belief that people do not need to be fixed; they need to be supported, empowered, and equipped. Through Prioritize Peace, my mission has been to help children, adolescents, young adults, and families own their power, walk in their purpose, and live in peace. What began as a young girl wanting to understand pain and make a difference has grown into a life’s mission: helping people heal, reclaim their voice, and believe in what’s possible for their lives again.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but it has absolutely been a purposeful one. Every challenge along the way has stretched me, refined me, and helped both me and my business grow into what it is today. One of my earliest struggles was simply accepting the call on my life. My first experience providing therapy in a professional setting was honestly very difficult. I worked for a community mental health agency where I was carrying an intense caseload of more than 40 clients, with very limited support, constant pressure, and even a hostile work environment where we sometimes had to fight just to receive our paychecks. That experience could have easily made me walk away from this work altogether, but instead it showed me how deeply this field needs people who are truly called, grounded, and committed to doing it differently.
Another challenge has been learning how to build and protect healthy boundaries within my practice. Therapy is deeply relational work, and when you truly care, it can be easy to overextend yourself in the name of helping. But part of this journey has been understanding that supporting clients also means modeling what healthy boundaries, clear communication, accountability, and mutual respect look like. That is one of the less glamorous sides of this work. People often celebrate therapy as a space to be heard, affirmed, and supported, which it absolutely is, but healing also requires responsibility, honesty, and change. Navigating no-shows, unrealistic expectations, or moments of disrespect has challenged me to grow not just as a clinician, but as a business owner and leader.
Through it all, God has been incredibly faithful. Even in moments where fear, exhaustion, or uncertainty tried to make me question the journey, I’ve seen Him continue to align things and make the path clear. So no, it has not been smooth, but I can honestly say every obstacle has served a purpose. The road has shaped me, strengthened me, and made Prioritize Peace Therapeutic Services even more rooted in the kind of integrity, compassion, and intentionality I always hoped it would carry.
As you know, we’re big fans of Prioritize Peace Therapeutic Services. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Prioritize Peace Therapeutic Services was created from a deep desire to offer young people the kind of support so many need but do not always receive. It is a healing centered mental health practice dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and young adults in a way that feels safe, affirming, and genuinely supportive. At the core of our work is the belief that young people do not need to be fixed, they need to be understood, supported, empowered, and equipped. We specialize in helping clients navigate trauma, anxiety, emotional regulation, self esteem, life transitions, and everyday stressors, while looking beyond behaviors and symptoms to understand the full picture of who they are and what they need to thrive.
What sets Prioritize Peace apart is the heart behind the work and the way healing is approached. I wanted to build a practice that felt warm, relatable, intentional, and deeply human. Therapy should not feel cold or disconnected. It should feel like a space where young people are truly seen, heard, and valued. That is something I care deeply about. Our work goes beyond simply processing challenges. We focus on helping clients build practical tools, emotional awareness, confidence, and a stronger sense of peace in their everyday lives. We meet young people where they are, while helping them believe in what is possible for their healing and growth.
What I am most proud of, brand wise, is that Prioritize Peace truly reflects my values and my mission. It is more than a business name. It is a message about what I believe every young person deserves. I want readers to know that Prioritize Peace Therapeutic Services is a space created with intention, compassion, and purpose. It is a brand rooted in healing, empowerment, and the belief that when young people are given the right support, they can grow into the fullest version of who they are meant to be.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Definitely! I’m very intentional about what I pour into myself, especially in the mornings, because it shapes how I show up in both my life and my work. Some of the podcasts I regularly listen to are Joyce Meyer’s Enjoying Everyday Life, the Blessed and Bossed Up podcast, and Daily Inspiration with Steve Harvey. They each give me a mix of faith, encouragement, perspective, and motivation.
I also begin my mornings with devotionals, gratitude journaling, meditation, and prayer. That routine helps me feel grounded, centered, and aligned before the day begins. I also love using the prerecorded meditations on our YouTube page as part of that practice. They help me slow down, reflect, and start my day from a place of peace.
