Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Bradley, Ph.D..
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into health coaching began with my own health crisis.
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, depression, and prediabetes. I was on medication, and although I was functioning, I was not thriving. I knew something had to change.
During Lent, I made a 40-day commitment to give up meat and animal by-products. By the end of Lent, I had lost over 33 pounds. Within three months, my doctor took me off my medication. Within seven months, I had lost more than 70 pounds.
I realized that what we eat directly impacts how we feel, how we function, and how we heal. Experiencing that transformation firsthand ignited a deep desire to understand the science behind what had happened in my body. That led me to enroll at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where I studied nutrition, behavior change, and the root causes of lifestyle-related diseases. After graduating, I earned my certification as a Health Coach.
Today, I support others navigating chronic conditions, weight challenges, and major life transitions in reclaiming their health through whole food, plant-based living and sustainable lifestyle change. I don’t teach theory from a distance. I teach from lived experience.
My story is proof that the body has an incredible capacity to heal when we give it what it needs.
I often say, “Allow food to be your medicine and never your poison,” because I have lived the difference. What started as my personal healing journey has evolved into a mission: to empower others to reclaim their health with knowledge, confidence, and faith.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road.
When I first transitioned to a vegan lifestyle, I struggled both physically and mentally. I didn’t fully understand what I was doing nutritionally, and there were moments when I felt fatigued, unsure, and overwhelmed. Changing the way you eat is one thing but changing your identity around food is something entirely different.
Socially, it was challenging as well. Food is deeply tied to culture, family, and connection. I worried that this shift would create distance between me and the people I loved. I wondered if I would lose friendships or feel isolated because I was choosing differently.
There were moments of doubt. Moments where I questioned whether I could sustain it long term.
But those struggles became my teachers.
They pushed me to educate myself properly, to learn about balanced plant-based nutrition, and to understand behavior change at a deeper level. They also helped me develop compassion for my future clients. I know what it feels like to be the only one ordering differently at the table. I know what it feels like to start over.
Looking back, I’m grateful it wasn’t smooth. The obstacles strengthened my resolve, deepened my knowledge, and prepared me to guide others through their own transitions with empathy and practical support.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the founder of Dr. BT Bradley, LLC, a health and wellness business dedicated to helping individuals reclaim their health through whole food, plant-based living and sustainable lifestyle change.
I specialize in supporting those who are navigating chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, weight challenges, menopause, etc. My work centers on education, behavior change, and practical implementation. I don’t believe in extreme dieting or quick fixes. I teach foundational habits that create long-term transformation.
What sets me apart is that I lead from a lived experience. I didn’t study plant-based nutrition because it was trendy. I studied it because it saved my life. I reversed my own chronic conditions, lost over 70 pounds, and came off medication through intentional lifestyle change.
I am also known for creating structured, supportive environments through challenges, digital programs, and group coaching experiences. Whether it’s a vegan challenge, an autophagy-focused challenge, or menopause-centered education, my goal is to simplify health information and make it accessible and actionable.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that my platform is rooted in empowerment, faith, and personal responsibility. My message is consistent: “Allow food to be your medicine and never your poison.” I want readers to know that my brand is not about perfection. It is about progress. It’s about helping people understand that their bodies are designed to heal when given the proper support.
At the core of everything I do is this belief: healing is possible, and discipline is a form of self-love.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t view my journey as luck. I view it as alignment, discipline, and faith.
Some people might call it “good luck” that I lost over 70 pounds, reversed my chronic conditions, and built a wellness brand from my personal transformation. But there was nothing accidental about it. It required daily decisions, consistency, sacrifice, and a willingness to change long-standing habits.
If anything, what looked like bad luck; my diagnosis with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes, obesity, and depression became the catalyst for my purpose. What initially felt discouraging ultimately redirected my life in the best way possible.
In business, I’ve learned that opportunities show up when preparation meets courage. I’ve had moments where doors opened unexpectedly, but I was ready because I had already done the internal work; education, certification, practice, and self-discipline.
I believe in faith over luck. I believe in stewardship over chance. My health journey taught me that outcomes change when we change. And that same principle applies to business.
So if luck has played a role, it’s this: I was fortunate enough to recognize that my struggle was actually an assignment.
And I chose to act on it.
