Today we’d like to introduce you to Zandra Gutay.
Hi Zandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Zandra Gutay’s journey as a visual storyteller began long before she ever held a professional camera. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she grew up fascinated by moments how light fell across a face, how emotions could be captured in a single frame, and how memories could live on through images. What started as casual family photos and self-portraits slowly evolved into a deep love for visual storytelling.
In her teenage years, Zandra spent time modeling, an experience that shaped her creative eye and gave her a unique understanding of emotion, movement, and vulnerability in front of the lens. That time taught her how powerful it feels to be truly seen and later inspired her to offer that same experience to others from behind the camera.
After moving to the United States and settling in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Zandra took a leap of faith and built ZandraVisuals as a one-woman photography and videography brand. What began as a personal creative outlet soon grew into a purpose-driven business rooted in authenticity, empathy, and connection. Without a studio or a large team, she focused instead on what mattered most: real moments, natural light, and meaningful stories.
Today, ZandraVisuals serves couples, families, and small business owners who value honest, cinematic visuals that feel personal and timeless. Every session is by appointment only, allowing Zandra to give each client her full attention and care. Her work blends artistry with emotion, capturing life as it unfolds unscripted, genuine, and beautifully human.
At its heart, Zandra’s mission is simple: to preserve memories in a way that feels true. Through patience, creativity, and a deep respect for each story she tells, Zandra continues to turn everyday moments into lasting legacies one frame at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many creative journeys, mine has been filled with uncertainty, trial and error, and moments of self-doubt. Building ZandraVisuals as a one-woman brand meant wearing every hat at once: creative, editor, marketer, scheduler, and business manager. There were times when balancing creativity with the realities of running a business felt overwhelming.
Starting over in a new country came with its own challengesbfinding my voice, building confidence, and earning trust in a competitive industry without a large network or team behind me. There were slow seasons with fewer bookings, moments of comparison, and times when I questioned whether I was doing enough or going in the right direction.
What kept me going was the belief that meaningful work takes time. Every challenge pushed me to grow not just as a photographer and videographer, but as a person. Those struggles shaped my patience, strengthened my resilience, and ultimately defined the heart of my work today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers on visual storytelling through photography and videography. I specialize in outdoor and event-based sessions capturing weddings, milestones, family moments, and brand content in a way that feels natural, cinematic, and deeply personal. Rather than focusing on overly posed shots, I’m drawn to real emotions, subtle interactions, and the in-between moments that often mean the most.
ZandraVisuals is known for warm, authentic imagery and a calm, thoughtful approach. I work one-on-one with every client, by appointment only, so each project receives my full attention. This allows me to truly listen, understand the story behind the shoot, and create visuals that reflect who my clients genuinely are not just how they look.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me during meaningful moments of their lives. Whether it’s a wedding day, a family milestone, or a small business building its brand, I’m honored to document stories that matter. What sets me apart is my empathy and intention—I don’t just take photos or videos, I create a safe, comfortable space where people can be themselves, resulting in imagery that feels honest, timeless, and emotionally true.
Any big plans?
Looking ahead, my focus is on growing ZandraVisuals in a way that stays true to its heart while allowing it to evolve. I plan to continue refining my signature style leaning even more into cinematic storytelling, natural light, and emotionally driven visuals so the work becomes instantly recognizable and deeply meaningful.
I’m excited to expand my offerings, especially in short-form video and story-driven brand content for small businesses and creatives who want visuals that feel authentic rather than overly commercial. I also look forward to building stronger creative partnerships within the local community and collaborating with other artists, planners, and entrepreneurs.
Long term, I’d love to create seasonal projects and community-based sessions that bring people together, as well as share more of my journey through behind-the-scenes content, blogging, or video. The biggest goal is intentional growth continuing to do meaningful work, building lasting relationships, and creating visuals that leave a lasting impact without losing the personal touch that defines ZandraVisuals.
